How to choose a dog groomer in Stroud and Cirencester
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. The 23 groomers listed here range from High Street salons trading well over a decade to home-based, one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the 23 businesses in this directory, nine were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Eight are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site; for one of these, Wags 'n' Whiskers, the phone number itself came from Google's own business listing rather than a website, after the number shown on a directory proved partly masked. Six are low confidence: their listing here says plainly that details are from search results only and should be confirmed by phone before booking.
Duplicates and conflicts flagged in research
A few businesses needed a judgement call. Skyvana K9 Styling appears under two slightly different trading names, Skyvana K9 Styling and Skyvana Dog Food and Grooming, with two different mobile numbers for the same Bisley address; it's listed once here. Mucky Pups in Nailsworth has two different addresses and phone numbers across directory listings, at Old Market and at Burma Road; the Old Market number is used as the main contact, with the other recorded as an alternative pending confirmation of which is current. Cotswold Canine Care's Cirencester salon on Ashcroft Road shares its exact address on one directory with a separately named "Dog Grooming by Naomi"; whether Naomi works within the salon or the listing is a directory error couldn't be confirmed, so only Cotswold Canine Care is listed. Golden Paws Grooming's Stonehouse premises sit just outside the Stroud postcode district used elsewhere in this directory, so the Stroud area here is named Stroud and Stonehouse to cover it properly.
Who was left out, and why
Louise's Pet Grooming, a Stroud-area business combining grooming with dog walking, day care and home boarding, was found only through a Facebook page; no phone number could be confirmed anywhere, so it isn't listed here. Pets at Home Groom Room in Cirencester is excluded as a national chain, per this directory's standing rule.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training comes up at Grooming Marvellous, where Sally holds the qualification, and at Barking Clean, whose groomer holds a City & Guilds Level 2 award and states over 7 years' experience. Golden Paws Grooming runs its own City & Guilds-linked academy, ICMG UK, from its Stonehouse premises. Lechlade K9 Centre's head groomer, Jackie Clarke, is stated to have over 25 years' grooming experience, though no specific qualification is named. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and specialist setups
A couple of businesses describe working with one dog at a time or offering evening slots rather than a busy salon floor: Skyvana K9 Styling in Bisley offers one-to-one dog grooming, and Red Head Dog Grooming in Brimscombe offers evening one-to-one appointments specifically for nervous, elderly or rescue dogs. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for your dog, these are worth asking about directly.
Mobile groomers
Only one of the 23 businesses here works from a van rather than a fixed salon: Swishy Tails Mobile Dog Grooming, based in Chalford Hill on the eastern edge of Stroud. Several salon-based groomers also say they travel to other towns: Ruff 'n' Ready lists Quedgeley, Dursley and Stonehouse, and Pet Fayre Stroud lists Nailsworth, Dursley, Minchinhampton, Painswick, Chalford, Stonehouse and Gloucester. Ask any salon whether it also covers your postcode if you need someone to come to you.
Cats and other animals
Golden Paws Grooming and Wags 'n' Whiskers both groom cats alongside dogs. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.
Multi-site operators
Cotswold Canine Care runs three separate salons covered here, in Cirencester town centre, at The Gateway in South Cerney and at Stratton, all under Cotswold Canine Care Ltd, incorporated in 2022. Barking Clean's Cirencester salon is the Gloucestershire branch of a two-town operator also trading in Frome, Somerset. About The Dog's Nailsworth branch is one of several run by a small Bristol-area group, sharing one central booking number across all its salons.
Reviews
None of the 23 businesses listed here carries a rating from an allowed, independently verifiable source with three or more reviews, so no ratings are shown in this edition. Ask to see recent work, or a reference, before booking.
Where they are
Coverage is heaviest in Cirencester (ten), followed by Stroud (seven) and Nailsworth (six). If you're in a thinner area, the nearest well-documented option, or the one mobile groomer covering your postcode, is worth trying first.
