Check how well the business is documented
Of the eighteen businesses in this directory, seven were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence): Majobi Dog Groomers & Spa, Toptail Dog Grooming, Snooties Groomers, Doggie & Moggie, Fluffs Dog Grooming, Shampooch Dog Groomers and Marmaduke's Mobile Dog Grooming Service. Ten are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, Facebook page or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site. One, Park Up 'n' Pamper in Fulford, is low confidence: it was found through a single directory listing only, with no own website, Facebook page or second source confirming its details, and its listing here says so plainly.
Two flagged address conflicts
Style4Paws Professional Dog Grooming has two addresses in circulation: Yelp and a search summary agree on 14 Celtic Close, Acomb, which is used here, while mypetgroomer.co.uk instead gives 55 Orchard Way, Dringhouses, for the same business name and phone number — worth confirming when you call. Sweeney Dog Pet Services, in Haxby, similarly has two house numbers for the same registered company (Sweeney Dog Pet Services Limited on Companies House) in circulation: 10 Hilbra Avenue (postcode YO32 3HD) and 29 Hilbra Avenue (postcode YO32 3HF). Both addresses are recorded here; neither has been resolved.
Who was left out, and why
Research turned up several more leads that don't appear in this directory. Two businesses had no confirmed phone number anywhere and were excluded on that basis: Canine Couture York in Haxby, whose own domain doesn't resolve, and Pawsome Dog Grooming York, also in Haxby, found only through Facebook and Instagram. Several more were excluded for sitting outside the postcode range this research covers (YO1, YO10, YO23 to YO32 and LS24): Fur Do's by Kellie (Pocklington), Dashing Dogs York (Grimston) and Snowlandia Boarding Kennels & Cattery (Naburn), plus groomers found in Easingwold, Terrington, Sutton on Derwent, Selby, Harrogate, Pontefract, Knaresborough and Rothwell. Perfect Paws, listed as a dog and cat groomer on some directories, now trades as "Perfect Paws Cat Groomers" only according to its own site, so it's excluded here as cat-only. Amy's Canine Cuts, named only in an aggregated "best of Clifton" results page with no independent address, phone or second confirming source, was left out rather than guessed at. A cluster of templated lead-generation sites offering identical-looking pages for Fulford, Wigginton and Tadcaster, with no address and no named groomer behind any of them, was also excluded. No national chain appeared as a York-specific listing in this research, though a York branch of Pets at Home turned up and was deliberately excluded, per the standing rule against chains.

Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and home-based setups
Several businesses describe working with one dog at a time rather than a busy multi-dog salon floor: Toptail Dog Grooming, Little Big Paw Grooming, Style4Paws Professional Dog Grooming and Shampooch Dog Groomers, which specifically says it uses no caging or crating. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.
Mobile groomers
Two of the eighteen businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Park Up 'n' Pamper, covering Fulford, and Marmaduke's Mobile Dog Grooming Service, based in Strensall and covering York and the surrounding area up to a 10 to 15 mile radius since 2011. If you need someone to come to you outside these rounds, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel.
Cats and other animals
