How to choose a dog groomer in Wrexham and north-east Wales
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 41 groomers across four areas either side of the Wrexham/Flintshire and Wrexham/Denbighshire borders: Wrexham town (LL11), Wrexham north & Gresford (LL12), Wrexham south & Marchwiel (LL13), and Ruabon, Chirk & Llangollen (LL14, LL20). This page was split out from the wider Chester directory once enough groomers were confirmed here to stand on its own.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the 41 businesses listed, eight are high confidence: name, address and phone confirmed on the business's own site, or matching independently on two separate sources. Twenty-two are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a single directory listing, or a genuine conflict between sources that could be resolved and is explained in the description. The remaining eleven are low confidence, meaning only a postcode, phone number and sometimes a Facebook page could be found; each of these carries a plain note that details are from search results only and should be confirmed by phone before booking.
Llangollen itself is thin
Only one business is confirmed based in Llangollen (LL20): Full Monty Dog Grooming, on Chapel Street. Most other search results for Llangollen groomers turned out to be mobile-groomer template sites serving a wide radius rather than a local shopfront, and Full Monty's own phone number wasn't published anywhere online during research — it was added here from the business's Google Places listing instead. If you're in Llangollen itself, this is currently the only groomer this directory can confirm; Ruabon, Chirk and the villages around Penycae, all covered by the same area, are the next-nearest options.
Who was left out, and why
Dog Grooming by Amy, in the Gresford area, has an active Facebook page but no phone number published anywhere found during research, so it isn't listed. Two more low-detail leads were dropped for the same reason: 101 Creations Dog Grooming and Esme's Grooming Room, both known only from a single directory row with no phone number to confirm. A listing for "A Jocebec" in the Llangollen postcode looked like a data-entry or scraping error rather than a real trading name and wasn't recorded. Fidget's Fidos, on Victoria Road, shares its exact address and phone number with a directory-only alternate address already tied to Pretty Puppy Parlour; treated as a data-conflation error rather than a second business, it isn't listed separately. Vicki's Dog Grooming (also seen as Vickis Dog Clipping and Vickis) in Rhosddu remains unpublished, as it was on the old Chester page: its own site fails with a certificate error, and no independent site could confirm a phone number strongly enough to publish one. A second business trading as "The Groom Room" in Chirk was found and deliberately left out, to avoid it being confused with the Pets at Home Groom Room chain branch on Plas Coch Road, which is excluded here as it is on every page in this directory.
Names, addresses and phone numbers worth double-checking
Snip Doggy Dogg, in Bradley, is recorded at the Chestnut Road address given by two of three conflicting directory listings found for the name; a third gives a different Bradley street with its own phone number, and it wasn't possible to confirm whether that's stale directory data or a second business trading under the same name, so confirm by phone before visiting. All Creatures Great & Small, on the High Street in Ruabon, is also found trading as Angela's Country Clipping at the identical address, each name with its own phone number on a different directory; both are recorded together here rather than guessing which one is current. Kacey's K9's, in Rhosymedre, had a malformed 13-digit phone number on one directory; the valid mobile number from a second source is used instead. Ultimutt Dog Grooming Salon is recorded at its fuller Shones Lane, Llay address, matched by phone number to a second, incomplete address on another directory.
Qualifications
Where a qualification is stated, it's usually City & Guilds: Dovetail Dog Grooming's groomer Jen holds a Level 3 qualification and canine first-aid training, and Muddy Buddy'z Dog Grooming & Micro Chipping's groomer is also City & Guilds qualified. Champer's Grooming Room's staff hold Canine First Aid certificates and are members of the British Isles Grooming Association. Not every business states a qualification; where none is published, that isn't recorded as an assumption either way, so ask when you call.
Farm, stable and village-based setups
Two salons work from a rural rather than shopfront setting: Muddy Buddy'z Dog Grooming & Micro Chipping, at Pen-y-lan Farm near Penycae, and Cinders Fancy Fur Cutz, at Cinders Stables on Overton Road, Ruabon. No mobile groomer — one that travels to your home — was confirmed with a phone number anywhere in this coverage area, which is unusual compared with most other towns in this directory.
Cats and other animals
Pawsome Dog & Cat Groomer, in the Wrexham north & Gresford area, grooms cats as well as dogs. Everyone else confirmed in this directory is for dog grooming only.
Reviews
21 of the 40 groomers listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. Ask to see recent work, a reference, or photos of previous grooms instead of relying on a star rating you can't check yourself.
Where they are
Coverage is close to even across the four areas: Wrexham town and Wrexham north & Gresford have 11 confirmed businesses each, Ruabon, Chirk & Llangollen has 10, and Wrexham south & Marchwiel has 9. Five businesses across the directory have only a Facebook page on record rather than a website — Woof Washes, Hanz K9z Dog Grooming Salon, Paws4all Grooming, Ruff Cuts Dog Grooming and Fur Get Me Knot Dog Grooming — and Facebook pages aren't fetched for this directory, so each carries a note to confirm details by phone.
