How to choose a dog groomer in Wandsworth and south-west London

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers eight areas across Wandsworth and south-west London — Wandsworth and Earlsfield, Battersea, Clapham and Balham, Tooting and Streatham, Fulham, Chelsea and Kensington, Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush, and Brixton and Herne Hill — with thirty-nine listed groomers ranging from long-established multi-branch chains to home-based, one-person operations found through a single online listing. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the thirty-nine businesses in this directory, twenty-two were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Ten are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, a search-engine summary, or a phone number confirmed only via Google Places rather than the business's own page. Seven are low confidence, most with only a name, address and phone number pulled from a single online listing and no confirmed working website of their own; their listings here say so plainly, and are worth a call to confirm before booking.

Postcode governs the area, not the marketing name

Several businesses in this directory market themselves under a different area's name than the postcode they actually sit in, and are filed here by postcode rather than by marketing name. Dog & Groom's "Wandsworth" store, on Bellevue Road, and D-O-G Grooming Studio's Wandsworth Common branch, on Trinity Road, both sit in the SW17 postcode district and are listed under Tooting and Streatham, not Wandsworth and Earlsfield. Pawpairs Pet Services markets itself as being "near Earlsfield station", but its own site gives an SW17 postcode, so it's listed the same way. My Furry Friends Chelsea trades under a Chelsea name from a King's Road address that in fact sits in the SW6 Fulham postcode district, so it's listed under Fulham. If you're searching by neighbourhood name rather than postcode, check which area a business is actually listed under here before assuming it's out of reach.

Multi-branch groups

Several names in this directory cover more than one address. London Dog Grooming Co. runs three branches, two of them inside this directory's area (Battersea and Hammersmith), alongside a third in Wimbledon. The Pet Spa London runs sister salons in Balham and Chelsea. Dog & Groom runs a Wandsworth-area branch, filed under Tooting and Streatham by postcode, and a separate Fulham branch. Pet Pavilion runs three of its six London branches inside this directory's area, on King's Road in Chelsea, in the Chelsea Farmers Market, and on Kensington Church Street, alongside three more outside it in Chiswick and Primrose Hill. Check you've booked the branch nearest you, since prices and hours can differ by location even under the same name.

Duplicate names and unresolved conflicts

A few records needed a judgement call rather than a simple merge. Dog Street Pet Grooming, in Earlsfield, is also found trading as "Nerea Dog Grooming" (the owner's own name) at the identical Lavenham Road address; the two are treated as one business here. London Dog Grooming Co.'s Battersea branch shares its Battersea Park Road address with a name seen on a directory, "Barking Betty"; that name isn't confirmed as a current trading name on the operator's own site, so the listing here uses the confirmed name only. Diana & George's own site gives one Battersea-area address and phone number, but a directory shows a same-named business at a different Battersea Park Road address with a different phone; this hasn't been resolved, so only the figures from the business's own site are shown here, and it's worth confirming by phone that you have the right branch before travelling.

Who was left out, and why

Puggles Dog Grooming, a mobile operator covering Brixton and wider south London, was excluded from this directory for lack of a confirmed phone number to book on. Pets at Home's Battersea store and its Groom Room in Balham were excluded as national chains, matching every other town in this network. Masters Touch and City Paws Club, both genuine local groomers, were excluded as based in Putney, SW15, outside all eight named areas and not explicitly covering one of them. Pet Pavilion's Gloucester Road branch in Kensington was also excluded on postcode grounds, since it sits in SW7, outside the three postcode districts named for Chelsea and Kensington in this edition. A business seen on a directory as "Dirty Dog Grooming" at a Battersea address was excluded because the only matching website found belongs to an unrelated business in Saltash, Cornwall.

Thinly covered areas

Wandsworth and Earlsfield, and Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush, are the thinnest areas here, with three confirmed groomers each. Tooting and Streatham is the best covered, with nine, spanning two postcode districts and the Trinity Road/Garratt Lane corridor towards Wandsworth Common. If you're in one of the thinner areas, a groomer in a neighbouring area, or one of the mobile operators below, is worth trying.

Mobile and home-visit groomers

Two businesses here work from a van or come to you rather than from a fixed salon: Alice the London Dog Groomer, mobile and home-based around White City, and Diva Dogs London, a home-visit service covering Chelsea, Kensington and Westminster with a published £45 call-out fee. Several more work from a single practitioner's own home rather than travelling: Dog Street Pet Grooming (Earlsfield), Hair of the Dog (Southfields) and Canine Hairline (Streatham), among others.

Cats, and other extras

Several groomers here also handle cats alongside dogs: both branches of The Pet Spa London, D-O-G Grooming Studio, Groomer London and SW Dog Groomers all list cat grooming or cat-specific services. A handful combine grooming with something else entirely: Big City Dog runs a pet concept store and an on-site matcha bar in Kensington, Love My Human runs a dog-friendly cafe and its own grooming training academy on King's Road, and Urban Mutts Hotels runs a full daycare-and-boarding dog club inside Westfield London.

Reviews

No business in this directory carries a rating from an independently verifiable source at the time of writing. Several show star ratings on directory aggregator sites, but none were seen directly on a Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page with a working link, so none are shown here. Ask to see recent work or a reference rather than assuming a groomer has no track record at all.

Where they are

Coverage across the eight areas: Tooting and Streatham (nine), Chelsea and Kensington (eight), Fulham (six), Battersea (five), Wandsworth and Earlsfield, Clapham and Balham, and Hammersmith and Shepherd's Bush (three each), and Brixton and Herne Hill (two). If you're near a boundary, check the neighbouring area listing too — several groomers here cover more ground than their own postcode suggests.
