How to choose a dog groomer in Telford and Shrewsbury

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory's 36 confirmed businesses across Telford and Shrewsbury range from long-established salons with their own websites to home-based, one-person operations found through a single online listing. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 36 businesses listed, eight were confirmed from a first-hand working website (marked high confidence): Clips Grooming Parlour, KLB Dog Grooming, The Dog Spa Newport, The Canine Coven, Groom For Improvement Shrewsbury, PAW-Lished Canine Grooming & Fertility Services, Canny Cuts Dog Grooming and Paws & All Dog Grooming Salon. Ten are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from two independent online listings, or one online listing plus a news story. The remaining eighteen are low confidence, meaning a single online listing is all that could be found; each of these listings says so plainly, with a note to confirm details by phone before booking.

Madeley & Ironbridge is thin

Only one business is confirmed based in Madeley & Ironbridge (postcodes TF7, TF8): Dial A Dog Wash Telford, a self-service dog wash on Wrekin View in Madeley rather than a full styling salon. Repeated searches turned up no TF8-based groomer at all, and every other "Madeley" or "Ironbridge" result found was actually based in Dawley, Shifnal or Broseley, outside the named postcodes. A mobile groomer confirmed to cover this area (see below) could not be published here for lack of a confirmed phone number. If you're in Madeley or Ironbridge, expect to travel to Telford & Wellington or Oakengates & Donnington, or to look for a mobile groomer willing to come to you.

Who was left out, and why

Three businesses with a confirmed address don't appear in this directory for lack of a confirmed phone number: Clippers and Dippers (Trench Lock, Telford), Dogsbody's Grooming Parlour (Posenhall, Broseley) and Baths & Barks Mobile Dog Grooming, a mobile round covering most of the towns in this directory. Several more were excluded as out of area rather than stretched to fit: Ironbridge Grooming Services, despite its name, is based in Dawley, not TF7 or TF8; Happy Tails Dog Spa's postcode, WV15, is a genuine Bridgnorth-area district but not the WV16 named here, and its street address could not even be confirmed as being in Shropshire rather than the West Midlands; and a large number of Shrewsbury-area results sit in the SY4 or SY5 postcodes, outside the SY1-SY3 range this edition covers. Two national in-store chains, Pets at Home Groom Room concessions, were deliberately excluded as franchise operations. Two multi-town websites, Rovers Dog Grooming and Alison's Dog Grooming, were also excluded: the first is a lead-generation site with no named groomer or address behind it, and the second's domain did not resolve at all. K9 Anytime, a dog daycare and training business near Shifnal where grooming is one of several services, and Orchard Haven Grooming Parlour & Kennels in Shifnal, both fell outside the eight postcode areas named for this directory.

A possible duplicate pair in Whitchurch

Clare's Dog Grooming, on Watergate Street, and Grooming by Clare, on Bridgewater Street, came from the same online listing page under near-identical names but different addresses and phone numbers. This could be one groomer working from two premises, two different groomers who happen to share a first name, or a listing error; neither could be confirmed, so both appear here separately, each with a note to confirm by phone. Separately, Doggy Pals Grooming Parlour in Wellington was found under a second trading name at the identical address and phone number; it is listed once here, under the name used on its own social media page and in local news coverage of its new Oakengates salon, The Fluff Bar.

Qualifications

City & Guilds training comes up most often: Waggy Washes Dog Grooming Salon in Donnington, Paws & All Dog Grooming Salon in Bridgnorth, and K9 Dog Groomers, run by Robert Cooke from Highley, who cites 30 years' experience alongside the qualification. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.

One-to-one and home-based setups

Several businesses describe grooming one dog at a time rather than running a busy multi-dog salon floor: KLB Dog Grooming, a purpose-built one-person salon near Telford Shopping Centre; The Canine Coven in Shrewsbury, which specialises in calm handling for nervous dogs; and Jodie's Dog Grooming and The Hounds of Donnington, both described as one-to-one services. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.

Mobile groomers

Only one mobile groomer is confirmed in this directory: K9 Dog Groomers, run by Robert Cooke from Highley, covering up to 15 miles from Bridgnorth. A second mobile round, Baths & Barks, covers a much wider area including Wellington, Madeley, Ironbridge and Newport, but could not be published here for lack of a confirmed phone number.

Cats and other services

Blooming Barkers, near Market Drayton, grooms cats as well as dogs. PAW-Lished in Shrewsbury also offers canine fertility services, including artificial insemination and pregnancy scanning, from the same premises as its grooming. Everyone else confirmed in this directory is for dog grooming only.

Reviews

No business in this directory carries a rating here. Research did not find a Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp review page, with a working link, for any of the 36 groomers confirmed across Telford and Shrewsbury. Some businesses show a star rating on the online listings checked, but none of those is an independently verifiable review platform, so none is shown here. Ask to see recent work or a reference rather than relying on a listing's own score.

Where they are

Coverage is heaviest in Market Drayton & Whitchurch (seven confirmed businesses) and Telford & Wellington (six), followed by Oakengates & Donnington and Bridgnorth (five each), then Newport, Shrewsbury town centre and Shrewsbury south & Meole Brace (four each). Madeley & Ironbridge, at one, is by far the thinnest area confirmed; see above for why. If you're in a thinner area, the nearest well-documented option or a mobile groomer covering your postcode is worth trying first.
