How to choose a dog groomer in Swansea
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers thirty-eight groomers across Swansea and the wider area, from long-established salons with their own website to home-based one-person operations found through a single online listing. Read this before you pick one.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the thirty-eight businesses listed here, fourteen were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Twenty-four are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, Facebook page or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site. Two leads that could not be confirmed to this level, Sues Animal Magic in Morriston (no phone number found anywhere) and Penrhiw Pawfection Dog Grooming in Port Talbot, don't appear here as separate listings; see below for how the second of those was handled.
Two flagged pairs: confirm which business you're calling
Two places in this directory needed a judgement call rather than a clean answer. In Gorseinon, At Your Bark & Call Mobile Dog Groomer is recorded at 22 Hawthorne Avenue, but a second business, Amanda's Pet Grooming Spa, is also listed at the identical address with a different phone number; it hasn't been possible to work out whether these are one operator trading under two names, two unrelated households sharing a street number, or a directory error, so only the better-documented of the two is shown, and its listing says so plainly. In Port Talbot, Scruffy to Fluffy Dog Spa has its own working website describing it as the first dog spa in the town, but that site publishes no phone number; a phone number was instead found at the adjacent address under the name Penrhiw Pawfection Dog Grooming, and the two names have not been reconciled. Both entries carry a confirm-by-phone note: check you have the right business, and the right number, before you book.
Who was left out, and why
Chains were excluded on principle: Pets at Home Groom Room branches at four retail parks across Swansea and Llanelli were found and left out as a national franchise rather than a local business. Three postcode districts that sit within Swansea's built-up area but outside the eight named here, SA5, SA8 and SA9, were excluded on geography, taking with them several real salons including Animal Antics Grooming, Short Bark & Sides, Mucky Paws Dog Services and K9 Kutz. Beyond Llanelli's SA14/SA15 core, leads based in Burry Port, Kidwelly and Carmarthen were excluded as out of area, even where they said they covered Llanelli. A further set of plausible leads, particularly around Gorseinon, Pontarddulais, Birchgrove and Briton Ferry, were found but left out simply to keep this edition to a manageable size rather than for any fault of their own; a second research pass may add some of them later.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training comes up most often: La Pooch Professional Dog Stylists, Barkingham Park Pet Spa (Level 3), Cutz 4 Mutz Dog Grooming Academy, Doggywoggydoodaa (Level 3, plus British Dog Groomers Association membership) and Louisianna Grooming Service (Level 3) all cite it. Louisianna also holds ICMG qualifications, and Cutz 4 Mutz's staff are additionally Lantra accredited. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and home-based setups
Several businesses describe working with one dog at a time rather than a busy multi-dog salon floor: Brynmill Dog Grooming and Pet Services (over ten years' experience), The Prancing Pup (a home studio in Sketty/Tycoch with no other dogs present during a session), Tidy Tails in Gowerton and All Fur Love Dog Grooming in Dafen. Helen's Home Grooming & Boarding, in Garden Village, Gorseinon, is separately noted in review summaries for handling dogs with behavioural or health issues. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.
Mobile groomers
Four of the thirty-eight businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Dial A Dog Wash Swansea and Dog Gone Clean, both covering the Swansea centre and Sandfields side of the city, At Your Bark & Call Mobile Dog Groomer, covering Swansea and Llanelli from a Gorseinon base, and Hot Dogz in Port Talbot, which also trades under the name Paws Patrol on an older listing. If you need someone to come to you outside these rounds, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel.
Cats and other services
Furry & Fabulous, Barkingham Park Pet Spa, Cutz 4 Mutz Dog Grooming Academy and Louisianna Grooming Service all groom cats alongside dogs. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.
Reviews
No business in this directory carries a rating here, because none could be confirmed from an independent source this directory can verify and link to. Barkingham Park Pet Spa's own site cites a 5.0 Google rating, and Alyson's K9 Grooming shows 25 reviews on one directory, but neither links a genuine Google Maps, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page, so neither is shown. Ask to see recent work or a reference instead of assuming a business has no reviews at all; a later ratings pass across this and other towns may add verified ones.
Where they are, and the thin spots
Coverage is heaviest in Neath (seven), followed by Gorseinon & Pontarddulais and Llanelli (six each), then Sketty & Uplands and Port Talbot (five each) and Morriston & Llansamlet (four). Two areas are genuinely thin and it's worth saying so plainly: Mumbles & Gower has only two confirmed independents, Pawtraits and Dewkes of Mumbles, with the wider Gower peninsula villages returning nothing with a confirmed phone number in the sources checked; and Swansea centre & Sandfields has just three, reflecting a city core that's mostly retail, offices and the marina rather than the residential streets that tend to support a grooming salon. If you're in either area, a mobile groomer covering your postcode or the nearest well-documented salon in a neighbouring area is worth trying first.
