How to choose a dog groomer in Stockport and Macclesfield
This town bundles eight areas running from Reddish and Marple in the north down through Cheadle, Wilmslow, Macclesfield, Poynton, Glossop, Buxton and New Mills in the south — a spread that crosses three council areas (Stockport, Cheshire East and Derbyshire High Peak) rather than sitting inside a single town boundary. Stockport's own town centre, along with SK1–SK4, SK14 and SK15, is already covered on this site's separate Manchester listing, so nothing based there is repeated here.
New Mills and Hayfield has only one confirmed groomer
Of the eight areas, New Mills & Hayfield is by far the thinnest: Unleashed Dog Grooming Salon on Torr Top Street in New Mills is the only groomer confirmed for this area. Nothing based specifically in Hayfield itself could be confirmed. If you live in or near Hayfield, it's worth calling Unleashed directly to check it covers your journey before assuming it's your only option locally — a further search may turn up a closer groomer that simply doesn't appear in the sources checked for this edition.
Confidence levels
Of the 23 businesses published here, 7 are high confidence (details independently confirmed from the business's own website) and 16 are medium confidence (details corroborated across directory or listing pages rather than the business's own site). Five of those medium-confidence listings — Mucky Mutts Macclesfield, Cheshire Canines, Doghouse Grooming, The Dog Spa Bramhall and Woof & Ready — had no publishable phone number from the original research and had one added from the business's own Google Places listing in a follow-up pass, which is why they carry a phone number here despite being medium rather than high confidence. None of the 23 published businesses are low confidence.
Who was left out, and why
Two businesses with a confirmed address were left out because no phone number could be confirmed from any source checked: Le Moulin Pooch, a dog spa and boutique in Buxton's Cavendish Shopping Arcade, and Adora Chic Dog Boutique, a by-appointment boutique in Chapel-en-le-Frith that publishes only an email address. A further business, Paws of the Peak in Chapel-en-le-Frith, is a real, named operator but no street address could be confirmed, so it was left out rather than guessed at. National chain branches were excluded on principle, and a mobile grooming operation with dozens of templated town landing pages and no named local operator or address was also left out, since it reads as a lead-generation site rather than a single identifiable business. Several businesses based in Stockport town centre or in postcode districts SK6/SK7 are already listed under this site's Manchester town and were not repeated here to avoid duplicating the same business twice on the site. One exception is Snobby Dogs Grooming Parlour, which has a second, separate salon in Glossop: that Glossop branch is listed here in its own right, distinct from its original Woodley, Stockport salon already covered under Manchester.
Qualifications and setups
Several groomers publish formal qualifications: The Hound & Co Marple's owner holds a City & Guilds Level 3 Professional Stylist Diploma, Little and Large Dog Grooming in Macclesfield is City & Guilds qualified, Lizzie's Professional Dog Grooming in Whaley Bridge is Level 3 qualified with seven years' experience, and Canine Co Dog Groomers in Hazel Grove holds BIGA, City & Guilds, iPet Network and OCN accreditations across its team and runs its own grooming academy for trainees. A number of listings are one-to-one or home-based rather than multi-dog salons: The Dogroom in Cheadle Hulme grooms one dog at a time, Little and Large and Gentle Paws by Eve are both home-based, and Gentle Paws by Eve specialises in de-shedding double-coated breeds, though it was running a wait-list for new customers when checked.
Mobile and multi-area coverage
Two groomers are genuinely mobile, travelling to groom dogs at home rather than working from a fixed salon: Poynton Paws in Higher Poynton (which also offers dog walking and cat sitting) and Happy Howlers Dog Grooming, based in Brosscroft Village, Hadfield. Handforth Dog Groomers runs a salon on Plumley Road but also offers a mobile option for owners who'd rather stay home. A handful of salons market themselves across more than one of this town's areas from a single base — Ohana Pet Spa and Handforth Dog Groomers both cover Handforth, Heald Green, Cheadle and Bramhall from Handforth, and Canine Co Dog Groomers covers Bramhall, Marple, High Lane and Poynton from Hazel Grove — so a groomer listed under one area heading may still be worth calling if you live in a neighbouring one.
Reviews
No independent, verifiable rating from Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp was found for any of the 23 businesses published here, so none carry a star rating on this site. That isn't a judgement on the quality of any of them, only a reflection of what could be confirmed this session; ask to see photos of previous grooms, or ask a groomer directly about their experience, if reviews matter to your decision.
Area coverage
By area: Macclesfield has the most choice with 7 groomers, followed by Poynton & Bramhall with 4, Glossop & Hadfield with 3, and Reddish & Marple, Cheadle & Gatley, Wilmslow & Alderley Edge and Buxton, Chapel-en-le-Frith & Whaley Bridge with 2 each. New Mills & Hayfield, as above, has just the one. If your own area is thin, check the neighbouring one on this list before ruling out a short drive.
