How to choose a dog groomer in Poole and Wimborne

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory's 35 groomers across Poole, Parkstone, Branksome, Canford Heath, Broadstone, Upton, Lytchett Minster and Wimborne range from award-winning salons with their own working site to businesses confirmed by little more than a phone number. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 35 businesses in this directory, seven were confirmed from a first-hand website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Ten are medium confidence, usually meaning the address, phone or name comes with some unresolved detail: a second premises or a second phone number recorded alongside the main one, or a name that appears slightly differently across sources. Eighteen are low confidence, generally a business confirmed only through a local directory listing, with a street address and phone number but no owner website found. For every low-confidence and conflicted record here, details are from search results only; confirm by phone what's on offer, current opening hours and prices before booking.

Flagged conflicts

Three records carry an unresolved conflict rather than a single confirmed detail. Your Dog and Me is corroborated at a Broadstone address by three separate sources, but one other source gives a different Poole address for the same name and phone number. Grooming Marvellous is placed inside a Parkstone pet store per one source, with a second, different address recorded for the same phone number elsewhere, possibly a former or second premises. TE Dog Grooming shares its postcode with a listing under the name Trim Pets, with no house number and a different phone number recorded for that name; the two are treated as one business here. Confirm the current address, and which number to call, for any of these three before booking.

Mobile groomers

Four of the 35 businesses in this directory work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Clippity Snip and Spa Tails Mobile Dog Grooming & Spa (both based in Poole), and Maisie's Muttz Mobile Dog Grooming and Door to Paw (both based in the Canford Heath/Broadstone area). None publishes a price list, so confirm your address is covered and ask for a quote when you call.

Multi-town and franchise operators

For The Love of Dog runs a salon at Southern Counties Electrics on Ashley Road, Parkstone, alongside sites in Christchurch, Lymington and Ringwood; it is kept here as a genuine local premises rather than excluded as a chain. Two Pets at Home Groom Room branches found in Poole were excluded as a national chain, as with every other town in this network. A national mobile dog-wash franchise's Corfe Mullen territory was researched but is not listed here: the only phone number found for it on a directory turned out, on checking, to be another business's number recorded against it in error, so no confirmed number of its own could be given.

Left out for lack of a phone

Three further businesses researched for this directory are left out entirely because no confirmed phone number of their own could be found: Pooch About Dog Grooming (Parkstone), Mucky Pups (Broadstone) and Polygon Pets Ltd, which runs a self-service, coin-operated dog-wash point at Upton Country Park rather than a staffed grooming service.

Where they are, and where coverage is thin

Coverage is heaviest in Parkstone and Branksome (13 businesses), followed by Wimborne (9), Canford Heath and Broadstone (7), then Poole town centre itself and Upton and Lytchett Minster, which are both thin. Poole town centre (BH15) has only four confirmed businesses, and most of the trade in the wider Poole area in fact sits in the surrounding residential districts covered here as Parkstone and Branksome rather than the town centre itself. Upton and Lytchett Minster (BH16) has only two confirmed businesses; it is a largely rural, sparsely built-up postcode district, so a thin count here reflects the area rather than a research gap. If you're in either of these two areas, it's worth checking with a groomer in a neighbouring area whether they also cover you.

Reviews

15 of the 34 groomers listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. Several mention awards or ratings on their own website or a directory listing, but a business's own claims aren't independently checkable in the way a linked, dated review page is, so none are shown here. Ask to see recent work, a reference, or reviews on the business's own social media, before booking.

Who else was researched and left out

Beyond the three excluded for lack of a confirmed phone number, a self-service dog-wash site at Sandbanks (BH13) was seen during research but sits outside this directory's postcode coverage, as does a second franchise territory of the mobile dog-wash operator above, based in Wareham. Verwood Canine Studios sits right at the edge of the Wimborne postcode district, closer to the neighbouring town of Verwood than to Wimborne itself, but is listed here under Wimborne in line with its postcode.
