How to choose a dog groomer in Newry, Mourne and Down

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory lists forty-three groomers across Newry, Mourne and Down, from long-established salons with their own premises to home-based one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.

Newcastle and Castlewellan are thin, and Warrenpoint and Rostrevor have no confirmed business at all

Newcastle has just two confirmed groomers, Donard Dog Grooming and Fancy Fur Dog Grooming, both home salons a short walk apart near Donard Park; every other search for a named business in the town came back empty. Castlewellan is just as thin, with only Tail Waggers and Wild Forest Grooming found. Both may simply be small markets rather than a research gap, but it's worth widening your search to a neighbouring area if neither suits. Warrenpoint & Kilkeel, the area covering BT34, fares better overall with nine confirmed businesses, yet none of them is actually based in Warrenpoint or Rostrevor themselves: every one sits in a Newry-adjacent, Kilkeel, Mayobridge or Rathfriland address instead. If you live in either town, the nearest confirmed groomer here is not on your own doorstep.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the forty-three businesses in this directory, two were confirmed from a working website plus at least one independent source (marked high confidence): Comb & Bark in Banbridge and Shampooch Dog Grooming, also in Banbridge, whose own Fresha booking page gives real detail. Twenty-two are medium confidence, usually meaning the address and phone number are confirmed across a directory listing or a Facebook page rather than the business's own working site. Nineteen are low confidence, found through a single source with no way to cross-check the details; each of these carries a note on its own listing here saying so plainly, and asking you to confirm by phone before booking.

An address mix-up in Mayobridge

Top N Tail Professional Dog Grooming and Valleyview Dog Grooming are both based in the Mayobridge countryside and are listed here as two separate businesses, with different phone numbers and addresses around a kilometre apart. One directory listing, however, gave Top N Tail's name at Valleyview's address, so the two may have been muddled by that source. Both are published here with a note to confirm the correct address by phone before you visit or book either one.

Who was left out, and why

Newry Dog Groomer, on Chapel Road, is not listed here: the only phone number found for it carried a Cardiff dialling code, evidently a directory error, and no working number could be confirmed. Two mobile-only operators both trading as Dial a Dog Wash, one covering Newry and Mourne and a second covering Newry city, are not listed either, since neither has a fixed address and this directory lists businesses by the area they're based in rather than the area they merely cover; ask a salon-based groomer near you whether they also offer a mobile visit if that suits you better. Pets at Home's in-store Groom Room at Damolly Retail Park and Jollyes' Pamper & Groom on the Armagh Road, both in Newry, are excluded as national chains, along with every chain in this directory. A handful of groomers around Portadown and Craigavon, and three in Ballynahinch, turned up on the same search pages as businesses covered here but sit outside the six areas in this brief, so they're excluded as out of area rather than overlooked. A few more names, including a Downpatrick business known only from Facebook with no address or phone found anywhere, a mobile groomer and a salon that could not be traced to any confirmed address in follow-up searches, a Kilkeel business whose only phone and email led to unrelated businesses of the same name abroad, and a self-serve wash station with two conflicting addresses in different countries, were all left out rather than guessed at.

Ratings

27 of the 41 groomers listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. Star ratings do appear on some directory pages used in researching this town, but they belong to the directory itself rather than to a Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page that was actually checked, so none qualify under this site's rule that a rating must come from an independent, verifiable source. Ask to see recent work, or a reference, rather than relying on a directory's own star rating.

Where they are

Coverage is heaviest in Downpatrick (fourteen), followed by Newry (ten), Warrenpoint & Kilkeel (nine), Banbridge (six), and Newcastle and Castlewellan with two each. If you're in one of the thinner areas, or in Warrenpoint or Rostrevor specifically, the nearest well-documented salon in Newry or Downpatrick, or a mobile groomer covering your postcode, is worth trying first.
