How to choose a dog groomer in Newark and Southwell

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory lists 20 groomers across Newark-on-Trent, the villages around Collingham, and Southwell, each checked and published only where a phone number could be confirmed. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 20 businesses here, 4 were confirmed from a working website of their own plus at least one other source (marked high confidence): Skruffs 2 Kruffs, DogWorks Grooming Boutique, The Dog Groomer and DogLea Grooms. Twelve are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from an online listing, a Facebook page, or a phone number filled in from Google's own business records rather than the business's own working site. Four are low confidence — Precious Paws, Girton Dog Grooming Studio, Merlins K9 Cuts and Valley House Kennels — where the address and phone came from a single directory listing or search summary rather than the business's own page; their listings here say so plainly, and Love Dogs Dog Grooming, though medium confidence, carries the same note because its own website wouldn't load during research. Confirm by phone before booking any of these five.

Two shared addresses

Riverside Grooming and Helen's Hounds Dog Grooming are both listed at the identical address, 6 Nursery Avenue in Farndon, under different names, with no shared owner mentioned by either business's own page. It could not be confirmed whether this is one home-based groomer trading under two names, two groomers sharing an address, or a data error somewhere upstream, so both are kept here as separate entries. Similarly, DogLea Grooms and Shaggy Chic Dog Grooming Studio share the NG25 0HQ postcode on Church Street in Southwell, but sit at different building numbers (65A and 7a) with different phone numbers, so they too are listed separately rather than merged. If you're booking any of these four, confirm by phone which business you're actually speaking to.

Southwell is thin

Southwell's own town centre has only two confirmed shopfront salons, both on Church Street: DogLea Grooms and Shaggy Chic Dog Grooming Studio. That's a genuinely thin market for a town of around 7,000 people, not a gap in this research — repeated checks for other Southwell-specific businesses turned up only groomers based in Ilkeston, Derby or elsewhere with no verifiable Southwell presence. The other two Southwell-area listings, Hey there Delilah and Valley House Kennels, are both based in villages just outside the town (Hockerton and Fiskerton), rather than in Southwell itself.

Who was left out, and why

LudoLoves Grooming (North Clifton), 4 Paws Spa (Elston) and Top Dog Spa (Kelham) were all researched and found to be real, named businesses, but no complete phone number could be confirmed for any of the three even after a Google Places check, so none is listed here. A cluster of genuinely rural villages just outside Southwell — Halam, Bilsthorpe, Kirton, Ollerton and Walesby — sit in Nottinghamshire's NG22 postcode area, which this directory doesn't cover because it falls inside the Nottingham area covered elsewhere on this site; the small groomers found there were excluded on that postcode basis alone, not on any doubt about them. Lincoln, Grantham, Sleaford, Nottingham, Mansfield and Retford businesses are excluded as covered by other towns on this site.

Qualifications

Where a qualification is stated, it's usually City & Guilds: The DogHouse Groomers' groomer in Balderton is City & Guilds qualified, and DogLea Grooms' groomer in Southwell is qualified to Level 3 standard and holds an animal first aid certificate. DogWorks Grooming Boutique's Nina is an International Certified Master Groomer, also City & Guilds qualified, and a member of the British Isles Grooming Association and the British Dog Groomers Association. Most other listings here don't state a formal qualification either way, so ask directly if it matters to you.

Mobile and one-to-one

Only one dedicated mobile service covers this area: Dog Hairdo, run by Sandra from Fernwood on the edge of Newark. Most of the rest work one dog at a time from a home, farm or salon rather than a busy multi-dog floor — Riverside Grooming, Helen's Hounds, Pam's Groom Room, The DogHouse Groomers, Love Dogs and Hey there Delilah all describe themselves this way. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.

Reviews

No business in this directory currently carries a shown rating. A rating is only shown here when it comes from an allowed independent source — a Google Business Profile, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp, with a working link and at least three reviews — and none of the sources found during this research met that bar. Ask to see recent work or a reference rather than assuming a lack of a shown rating here means anything either way.

Where they are

Coverage splits evenly across the three areas: Newark-on-Trent has 8 confirmed businesses, the villages around Collingham have 8 spread across a wide scatter of small settlements, and Southwell has 4, two of them in the town centre and two in nearby villages. If you're in one of the smaller villages, a mobile groomer or a short drive into Newark itself is likely to give you the widest choice.
