How to choose a dog groomer in Llandudno and Bangor
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This edition covers a wide stretch of the North Wales coast and its hinterland, eight postcode areas across four different counties (Conwy, Denbighshire, Gwynedd and the Isle of Anglesey), which means coverage is naturally patchier in places than in a single town. Read this before you pick a groomer.
How well documented each listing is
Of the 37 businesses shown here, 17 are high confidence, generally confirmed from the business's own working website plus at least one independent source. A further 17 are medium confidence, usually a clean directory listing with a full address and phone number but no first-hand site to check it against. Three are low confidence, and each says so plainly on its own listing: Skylar's Dog Grooming in Llandudno, whose only contact is a WhatsApp number found on a neighbourhood app page; Bertie's Bowtique Dog Grooming, a mobile service covering Colwyn Bay with no street address found anywhere; and Fron Hyfryd Dog Grooming, a mobile groomer near Bylchau whose trading name may simply be the name of the smallholding it operates from. Confirm what you're booking by phone before relying on any of these three.
Bangor, Caernarfon and Llanberis are thin
Coverage is honestly thin in the western part of this cluster. Bangor has just one confirmed independent salon, Tidy Tails Dog Grooming on Belmont Road; the city's other grooming option, a Pets at Home Groom Room on the Menai Retail Park, is a national chain and isn't listed here. The Caernarfon and Llanberis area has only three confirmed businesses in total, all in or near Caernarfon itself (Cwnarfon, Holy Hounds Dog Groomers and the mobile Digon o'r Sioe); Llanberis, Deiniolen and Penygroes returned no locally confirmed salon at all, only generic lead-generation websites with a page for every town in Wales, which aren't listed here. If you're in either area, it's worth also considering a mobile groomer's travel range or the nearest well-documented option in a neighbouring area.
A postcode correction: Sassy Paws
Sassy Paws, a mobile groomer based in Trelawnyd, is labelled "Trelawnyd, Mold" on the online listing it was found through. Its postcode, LL18 6PD, actually sits in the Rhyl and Prestatyn coastal strip, not near Mold, which is a different town in a different postcode area entirely. It's listed here under Rhyl & Prestatyn on the postcode, not the place name on the listing.
Rebrands, near-identical names and address conflicts
A few names in this cluster need a second look. Tidy Tails Dog Grooming in Bangor shares its exact address with an older Facebook page for "Muddy Paws Dog Grooming"; this looks like the same salon trading under an earlier name rather than two separate businesses, so only Tidy Tails is listed. Holy Hounds Dog Groomers, near Caernarfon, gives its address as Ty'r Groes, Saron Road, Llanfaglan LL54 5RJ on its own website, while other sources give a near-identical "Ty Croes, Saron Road, Caernarfon LL54 5RD"; the business's own site is used here. Porthmadog Dog Groomers also appears under slightly different spellings, including "porthmaDOGgroomers", across different listings for what is clearly the same business at the same address and phone number. A separate business with a similar name, Porthma'Dog Groomers & Training Salon in Pwllheli, is a genuinely different operator about 20 miles away, though it isn't listed here for lack of a confirmed phone number.
Who was left out, and why
Nine businesses found in research don't appear in this edition. Eight had no confirmed phone number on any source: Boss Dogz Ltd (a Companies House-registered operator in Conwy with an address but no phone), AABBOTTS Hairy Dog Grooming and The Groomers Arms (both in the Rhyl area, each carrying a star rating in search results that couldn't be traced to a verifiable review page, so no rating is shown for either even though neither is listed), Barkin' Mad Do Grooming in Rhyl, Mucky Paws Dog Groomers in Abergele (trading since 2014, per its own listing, but still no phone found), The Dog Wash Grooming Salon in Abergele, Crazy Canines near Llanfair Pwllgwyngyll (only a partial number was ever visible) and Porthma'Dog Groomers & Training Salon in Pwllheli. A ninth, Ruff Cuts Dog Grooming in Llandudno Junction, does have a confirmed number, but a search result suggested it may have closed in August 2025; that hasn't been independently confirmed, so it's left out pending a phone check rather than listed on stale information. Two Pets at Home Groom Room branches, in Llandudno and on Bangor's Menai Retail Park, were also excluded as a national chain rather than an independent groomer.
Mobile groomers
Eight of the 37 businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon, spread right across the area: Bertie's Bowtique Dog Grooming (Colwyn Bay), Oggies 4 Doggies (based in Gwaenysgor, covering Rhyl), Sassy Paws (Trelawnyd, covering the Rhyl area), Harley's Houndz Mobile Dog Grooming (based in Prestatyn, advertising coverage across the whole of North Wales), Spruce with Bruce (Llanfair Talhaiarn, near Abergele), Fron Hyfryd Dog Grooming (near Bylchau, close to Denbigh), Digon o'r Sioe (based at a farm near Caernarfon) and K9 Buddies (working one-to-one from a home base in Holyhead). If a groomer coming to your door matters more than a fixed salon, these are the ones to start with; always confirm they cover your specific postcode before booking.
One-to-one and specialist setups
Several listings describe a calmer, more individual approach than a busy multi-dog salon floor: The Dog House in Llandudno Junction offers one-to-one grooming in a calm, quiet setting; The Pooch Parlour in Llangaffo takes only one dog in the salon at a time; and K9 Buddies works one-to-one from a home salon in Holyhead. Cwnarfon, in Caernarfon, runs two named groomers, Zoe and Enlli, on different days of the week, and also rents out salon space to other groomers on a day-rate basis. If you want a specific finish, Alternadogs in Colwyn Bay does creative colour grooming (dyeing, patches and airbrushed designs) and Carly's Dog Grooming in Holyhead lists hand stripping and ultrasonic teeth cleaning by name; Trendy Pooches in Colwyn Bay offers a self-serve wash as an alternative to a full groom.
Cats
Scooby Doos Dog Grooming, in Llandudno, is the only business in this cluster confirmed to groom cats as well as dogs, and it also offers microchipping. Every other listing here is confirmed for dog grooming only.
Reviews
No rating is shown for any business in this directory. K9 Buddies in Holyhead is the only one whose Yelp page was checked directly, and it shows zero reviews there. No other business's Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp profile could be confirmed with a link, so ask to see recent work or a reference from the groomer directly rather than assuming a lack of a listed rating means a lack of reviews.
Where they are
Coverage across the 37 listed businesses is heaviest along the coast: Llandudno & Conwy, Colwyn Bay, Rhyl & Prestatyn and Holyhead & Anglesey each have six confirmed businesses, Abergele & Denbigh has five, Porthmadog & Pwllheli has four, Caernarfon & Llanberis has three, and Bangor has just one. If you're in one of the thinner areas, a mobile groomer covering your postcode or the nearest well-documented option in a neighbouring area is worth trying first.
