How to choose a dog groomer in Lincoln
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. Lincoln's 32 listed groomers, spread from the city centre out to Newark, Grantham, Sleaford and Gainsborough, range from long-established salons to home-based one-person operations found through a single online listing. Read this before you pick one.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the 32 businesses in this directory, 13 were confirmed from a working website of their own plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Sixteen are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from an online listing, a Facebook page or a phone number filled in separately rather than the business's own working site. Three are low confidence — Soapy Dog - Lincoln and Diggers Do's, both in Birchwood, and Pam's Groom Room in Newark — where the address and phone number came from a secondary source rather than the business's own page; their listings here say so plainly and are worth confirming by phone before you book.
One shared address, two different names
Riverside Grooming and Helen's Hounds Dog Grooming are both listed at the identical address, 6 Nursery Avenue in Farndon, near Newark, under different names, with no shared owner mentioned by either business's own page. It could not be confirmed whether this is one home-based groomer trading under two names, two groomers sharing one address, or a data error somewhere upstream, so both are kept here as separate entries rather than guessed at or merged. If you're booking either one, confirm by phone which business you're actually speaking to.
Thin areas
Coverage is uneven. Bracebridge Heath has only one confirmed independent groomer, Bushy Tails (Lincoln) Limited, though The Lincoln Dog Groomer, based in North Hykeham, markets itself as covering Bracebridge Heath and Waddington too. Nettleham has two (K9 Trim & Style in neighbouring Welton, and Major Groom on Sudbrooke Lane), and Grantham has two (Gonerby Gorgeous and Woof Love & More). All three areas are thin compared with North Hykeham's ten or Newark's six, so if you're in one of them, it's worth ringing round a little further afield or asking a groomer whether they travel to you.
Who was left out, and why
Pampered Paws, a City & Guilds qualified home-based groomer in North Hykeham, was found and researched but is not listed here: its phone number is masked behind a 'show number' control on the one listing that named it, and only the 07787 prefix could be confirmed, so it's excluded for lack of a full, confirmed phone number rather than published on a guess. A handful of real, named businesses sat just outside the postcode districts this edition covers and were excluded on that basis alone, not on any doubt about them: two long-established groomers near Grantham but in the NG32 district rather than NG31, one groomer in Retford, and two more in Kelham and Kirkby-in-Ashfield, outside the Newark and Nettleham areas this directory covers. A further group — including a Gainsborough salon known only through aggregator write-ups with no address, a Lincoln listing with a phone number but no confirmed business name, and two more Gainsborough businesses found only on Facebook with no address obtainable — were excluded because a name or address could not be confirmed from any source, per the rule against inventing either. Several mobile-grooming lead-generation sites with a template page for individual villages, but no named local groomer behind them, were excluded on the same principle.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training comes up most often: Paws to Groom's team (Level 3 diploma), Soapy Dog - Lincoln (Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming, plus a degree in animal welfare), Holly's House Dog Grooming's Tracey (Level 2 and 3), Scruffy 2 Fluffy and Barking Cuts (both City & Guilds qualified mobile or salon staff), K9 Trim & Style, Major Groom's owner and Gonerby Gorgeous's team (all Level 3) cite it directly. The Grooming Room at Deepdale Pets' staff are City & Guilds qualified and members of the Pet Care Trust and the British Dog Groomers Association; Gonerby Gorgeous also follows that association's Charter for Professional Groomers and its staff are K9 First Aid certified. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and home-based setups
Many of Lincoln's groomers work with one dog at a time rather than a busy multi-dog salon floor: Dandi Dog and Wagabubbles (run by Chloe) in Birchwood, Diggers Do's (Tina, with a fully enclosed garden used instead of crating), Holly's House Dog Grooming (small to medium dogs only, since sole groomer Tracey lifts each one herself), K9 Trim & Style, Major Groom, Kuts for Mutts (Donna, grooming since 1998), Doggy Tails Grooming and Wash & Wag, both in the Sleaford villages. A Groom With A View in Skellingthorpe goes further, combining grooming with doggy daycare and home boarding on the same site. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.
Mobile groomers
Two of the 32 businesses here are dedicated mobile services: Scruffy 2 Fluffy, working from a van out of a Palmer Road base in Lincoln, and Dog Hairdo, run by Sandra and based in Fernwood on the edge of Newark. Trimmy's Dog and Cat Grooming, otherwise home-based in Fenton, also runs a doggy van for owners who can't travel to it. If you need someone to come to you outside these rounds, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel.
Cats and other animals
Most groomers listed here are confirmed for dogs only. Three take more: Trimmy's Dog and Cat Grooming grooms cats alongside dogs, Barking Cuts in North Hykeham grooms cats and small animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits, and The Lincoln Dog Groomer runs scheduled cat grooming on Thursday afternoons.
Reviews
None of the 32 businesses in this directory carries a rating from an independent source this directory can verify and link to. A Groom With A View's Yelp page, an allowed source, was checked directly and currently shows zero reviews rather than none at all — the page is real, simply unreviewed. Two other businesses show star ratings on general aggregator sites, but neither is from Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp with a working link, so no rating is shown for them either. Ask to see recent work or a reference rather than assuming a groomer with no rating shown here has no reputation at all.
Where they are
Coverage is heaviest in North Hykeham (ten confirmed businesses), followed by Newark (six), then Lincoln city centre and Gainsborough (four each) and Sleaford (three), with Bracebridge Heath, Nettleham and Grantham the thinnest areas at one or two confirmed independents each. If you're in one of those thinner areas, the nearest well-documented option, or a mobile groomer covering your postcode, is worth trying first.
