How to choose a dog groomer in Kingston upon Thames
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers eight areas across south-west London and its Surrey-postcode edge: Kingston upon Thames town centre, Surbiton, New Malden, Wimbledon, Putney and Roehampton, Epsom and Ewell, Chessington and Tolworth, and Esher and Molesey. Thirty-eight groomers are listed. Read this before you pick one.
How well is each business documented?
Of the thirty-eight, fifteen were confirmed from a working website plus at least one other independent source (marked high confidence). Nine are medium confidence, typically meaning the details come from a directory listing, a social media page, or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site. Fourteen are low confidence: for these, all that could be confirmed is a name, address and phone number from a single online listing, with no working website or social media page to check services, prices or current trading status against. Every low-confidence listing here says so plainly and asks you to confirm by phone before booking.
Kingston town centre and New Malden are thin
Two of the eight areas returned far fewer businesses than the rest: Kingston upon Thames town centre itself (KT1/KT2) and New Malden (KT3) each have just three listed groomers, against thirteen in Wimbledon alone. That isn't because there's nothing there — it reflects what could be independently confirmed with a working phone number in this round of research, not a complete count of every dog groomer trading in either area. If you're in Kingston town centre or New Malden and none of the three listed here suit, it's worth asking neighbours, your vet or a local community group for a recommendation as well as checking back here.
A few things worth knowing before you call
Two businesses share one address and phone number under different names: The Doggy Wash in New Malden is also listed as "Pooch Mobile" — treated here as one mobile operation trading under two names, not two businesses. K9 Paws n Play's own website gives a Chessington Business Centre address, while some older listings still show a previous Tolworth Broadway address; the current Chessington address is the one used here. Several businesses — K9 Paws n Play, Star Boarding Kennels & Cattery, Its The Dogs, Jenny Coll Dog Grooming and Wags In Style — have two phone numbers on record; either should reach them, but it's worth trying the other if the first doesn't connect.
Who isn't listed, and why
A handful of names that turned up during research aren't included here. Three separate listings sharing one Raynes Park address all turned out to be the same in-store grooming counter at a national pet-superstore franchise, and a fourth in Epsom used the same franchise's customer-service phone format — all excluded, since a national franchise's in-store counter isn't a locally-run business. Two more names, sharing the same Worcester Park garden-centre address as The Pooch Planet (which is listed, under Surbiton, since it markets to Surbiton and KT5), looked like stale duplicate entries for that same unit and weren't independently confirmed as separate, current businesses. A Kingston listing called "Brush Puppies" shares Wags In Style's exact address and phone number; since Wags In Style's own site says it relocated to that Park Road shop in 2019, this reads as a leftover listing for a predecessor rather than a live, separate business. A business marketing across south-west London with no confirmed base address, and one named only in a single unlinked search summary with no traceable source, were also left out for the same reason: nothing about either could be independently confirmed. Five more businesses with a confirmed address — dog-groomer.uk and Shampooch Dog Grooming in Surbiton, Wag N Go in Wimbledon, Designer Dogs in Epsom, and The Laundromutt Claygate in Esher and Molesey — had no phone number that could be confirmed by any source checked, so they aren't published here either, in line with this directory's rule of only listing businesses with a confirmed phone. A long list of real-looking businesses in Fulham, Richmond, Teddington, Sutton, Hampton and Worcester Park also turned up in the same searches used for these eight areas, but sit outside them and aren't included here.
Qualifications, one-to-one setups and mobile groomers
Several salons here name specific staff qualifications: City & Guilds diplomas at Wags In Style, D-O-G Grooming Studio and SW Dog Groomers, an OCN Level 3 diploma at Duke's Dog Salon, and canine first-aid certification at several more. Two businesses, Hair for Pooch and Jenny Coll Dog Grooming, are one-person, home-based studios rather than shopfronts. Two are mobile services that travel to you rather than the other way round: The Doggy Wash, covering New Malden, and Missy Pawfect Care & Grooming Service, covering Epsom.
Reviews and ratings
No star rating is shown anywhere in this directory. Several businesses' own websites mention being "award-winning" or having good reviews in general terms, but none of those claims could be checked against a specific, linked review page from an allowed independent source, so nothing is shown here rather than repeating an unverified figure.
Postcodes and addressing
All eight areas covered here sit within Greater London's outer edge or its immediate commuter belt, but several — Epsom, Ewell, Esher, Molesey and Chessington — use KT postcodes and Surrey-style postal addressing even though the settlements themselves are part of this London-focused directory. Don't be put off by a "Surrey"-looking address on a business covered here: it's still within this directory's coverage area.
