How to choose a dog groomer in King's Lynn and Great Yarmouth

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This edition covers a large, two-anchor-town area stretching from King's Lynn in the west to Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft in the east, and the 29 groomers listed here range from long-established salons with their own websites to home-based, one-person businesses found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 29 businesses in this directory, seven were confirmed from a working website with details cross-checked elsewhere (high confidence): Debs Dogs Dog Grooming, Pawsh Dogs Grooming Studio, Shampooches of Dereham, Roopie's Dog Grooming, Willowcroft Grooming Services, K9 Design Studio and Cloeclips. The other twenty-two are medium confidence, typically meaning the address and phone are confirmed through a directory listing, a Facebook page or the business's own Google listing rather than a working site of its own. Five further leads found during research were low confidence — a single weak source, or details that could not be resolved — and every one of them was also missing a confirmed phone number, so none reached this directory; there is no published low-confidence listing here.

Areas that are genuinely thin

Coverage is uneven across this large area, and it's worth saying so plainly rather than papering over it. Lowestoft is the thinnest: of three leads researched, only one, K9 Design Studio, had a confirmed phone number; the other two (a mobile groomer and a home-based groomer) did not, and neither is listed. Beccles & Bungay has only two listings, Groomtastic Dog Spa and Cloeclips, and both are effectively Beccles businesses — no independently confirmed business was found trading from Bungay itself; a Bungay-only Facebook page turned up in research but with no independently confirmed address, so it isn't listed either. Cromer, Sheringham & North Walsham shows four listings, but all four are based in Cromer or North Walsham; despite the area's name, no business was found trading from Sheringham itself. If you're in Lowestoft, Bungay or Sheringham specifically, expect to travel, or to rely on a mobile groomer's coverage radius rather than a fixed local salon.

Flagged conflicts, and a case of mistaken identity

Cromer Dog Spa, on Louden Road in Cromer, shares its street with a differently-named, similarly-described groomer that surfaced under a nearby address in some directories; the two are treated as separate businesses here, on the strength of differing phone numbers and their own sources, and only Cromer Dog Spa is listed — the other business's own website gives its real base as Wells-next-the-Sea, well outside this directory's area, so it was excluded as out of area rather than merged in. At Groomtastic Dog Spa in Beccles, a separate Facebook listing shows a named groomer, Paige, also working under the Groomtastic name and address, so this may be more than one person grooming from the same salon rather than a single sole trader; ask when you call. The Dog Shed in Hindolveston, near Dereham, shares its name with an unrelated business at a Thetford address with a different phone prefix — the two are kept separate here, not merged, so double-check you've reached the right one.

Who was left out, and why

Nine researched businesses don't appear in this directory for lack of a confirmed phone number: Paws Dog Grooming Parlour and MaisieMoo's Grooming Parlour in King's Lynn, The Norfolk Groomshed, Just Fur Dogz and Doggie Style Grooming around Swaffham, Ashley Animals Mobile Dog Grooming and K P Cuts near Dereham, and Ems Mobile Dog Grooming and Scissor & Sparkle By Tiffany in Lowestoft — every one had a masked, mismatched or simply unavailable number across every source checked, so none is published. Two further leads were dropped as out of area on the strength of their own websites: The Norfolk Groomer and Bonny Dogs Grooming both actually base themselves in Wells-next-the-Sea, outside all eight postcode districts this directory covers, despite surfacing under Hunstanton and Cromer searches. Pets at Home Groom Room, with branches in both King's Lynn and Great Yarmouth, was excluded as a national chain rather than a local independent. One lead, trading as "Diamond Pets" and appearing in dog-grooming search results, turned out on its own directory profile to sell engraved pet ID tags rather than offer any grooming service, and was dropped entirely.

Qualifications

Where a qualification is stated, City & Guilds training comes up most often: Pawsh Dogs Grooming Studio's Kelly Byrne (a grooming diploma with distinction, plus canine first aid), Shampooches of Dereham's staff (Level 3, and members of the British Isles Grooming Association), Willowcroft Grooming Services (Level 2) and The Grooming Lodge, per its own directory description. Roopie's Dog Grooming and Cloeclips both describe themselves as Level 3 qualified and insured. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you; most of the 29 listings don't state one either way.

One-to-one and home-based setups

Several businesses describe working with one dog at a time or from a home base rather than a busy multi-dog salon floor: Charlie-Bears Dog Grooming and The Grooming Lodge, both in Downham Market, Groomtastic Dog Spa in Beccles, and home-based salons including Debs Dogs Dog Grooming in Gayton and Greenfields Grooming Parlour in Nordelph, which markets itself around a calm, quiet atmosphere. If a slower, single-appointment setting matters for a nervous or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.

Mobile groomers

Only two of the 29 businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Grooming by Michelle, covering Fakenham, and Cloeclips, based just outside Beccles and covering Bungay, Southwold, Halesworth and Lowestoft as well. If you need someone to come to you and neither covers your postcode, it's worth asking a salon-based groomer whether they also travel, since several researched mobile leads elsewhere in the area couldn't be confirmed with a phone number and aren't listed.

Cats and other animals

Four businesses in this directory are confirmed for more than just dogs: Shampooches of Dereham and Mutley's Makeovers Dog & Cat Grooming both groom cats alongside dogs, K9 Design Studio in Lowestoft grooms both species too, and Cloeclips also takes small pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs on its mobile round. Everyone else listed here is confirmed for dog grooming only.

Reviews

None of the 29 businesses in this directory carries an independently verifiable rating from an allowed, linkable source (a Google Maps profile, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp) at the time of this research. That's a gap worth being upfront about rather than filling with a directory-aggregator star rating that can't be checked — several turned up in research but weren't independently confirmable and so aren't shown. Ask to see recent work, a reference, or photos of the finished groom before booking anywhere in this directory.

Where they are

Coverage by area: Great Yarmouth & Gorleston has the most listings (7), followed by King's Lynn, Hunstanton & Fakenham, Dereham, and Cromer, Sheringham & North Walsham (4 each), then Downham Market & Swaffham (3), Beccles & Bungay (2), and Lowestoft, the thinnest, with just one confirmed independent. If you're in one of the thinner areas, a mobile groomer covering your postcode or a short drive to the nearest well-documented salon is likely your most reliable option.
