How to choose a dog groomer in Ipswich
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. Ipswich's thirty listed groomers, spread across Ipswich, Kesgrave, Martlesham, Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Needham Market and Hadleigh, range from long-established salons to home-based one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the thirty businesses in this directory, eleven were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Nine are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, Facebook page or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site; two of these, The Clip Joint and Ellie's Grooming Parlour, had only a partial or unconfirmed phone number during research, and the number shown here for each was instead confirmed through the business's Google Places entry. Ten are low confidence, each found through only a single directory listing with no second source located, and each listing here says so plainly and asks you to confirm details by phone.
Who was left out, and why
Two businesses found during research do not appear here because no phone number could be confirmed for either: One Two One Dog Grooming, a Rendlesham business run by an International Certified Master Groomer, and Alexandra's Pampered Paws, a barn-conversion groomer whose location is claimed by both Needham Market and Stowmarket in different sources. A handful of other names turned up only in search results with no address, phone number or working website that could be confirmed anywhere, and were left out rather than guessed at: Fluff and Buff Dog Grooming, Mel's Mutz Dog & Cat Grooming (actually based some sixty miles away in Essex), My Fur Lady (traced only to businesses outside Suffolk), Pawfection, Pet Shop Girls and Absolutely Fabulous Dog Grooming, plus a Martlesham Heath listing that carried an impossible US phone number rather than a genuine UK contact. A groomer covering Felixstowe, Ipswich and Woodbridge under a separate name was dropped because its domain has lapsed and no other contact could be found. National chain grooming rooms seen at two Pets at Home stores, in Ipswich and Martlesham Heath, were also excluded, as were several groomers found only in neighbouring Mid Suffolk and West Suffolk towns outside this directory's Ipswich-area coverage.
Duplicates and conflicts, flagged rather than hidden
A few businesses share an address, phone number or name with another listing, and are shown once here with the overlap noted rather than counted twice. Beth's Pet Styling previously traded from the same Henley building as The Forge Dog Grooming. Four Paws Dog Grooming Ltd appears under the name Foxhall Groomers on another listing, sharing the same Foxhall Road address and phone number. Fluff The Ruff shares its Sandy Lane, Martlesham address and phone number with a listing for Suffolk Canine Creche, suggesting one combined grooming-and-daycare operation rather than two businesses. Happi Days Dog Day Care's correct Martlesham Heath address is used here after one source wrongly attached a different, Rendlesham business-park address to it.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training comes up repeatedly: Short Bakun Tails (Level 2, and Level 3 with distinction), Beth's Pet Styling (Level 2 and Level 3), and Harvey's Hounds Dog Grooming (Level 2 and Level 3, plus a third-place finish in the Hand Strip Novice category at the Salon of the Groomer competition). Fay's Diamond Dog Grooming goes further, with City & Guilds Level 3 and Level 4 (LCGI) plus International Certified Master Groomer status. Hadleigh Pet Services' owner holds a Level 3 diploma and is registered with the British Isles Grooming Association, The Groomers Spotlight and the Pet Industry Federation, and the business is also an approved dog grooming training school. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and home-based setups
Several businesses describe working with one dog at a time rather than a busy multi-dog salon floor: Short Bakun Tails (strictly 1-2-1, with a meet-and-greet consultation for new clients), Beth's Pet Styling, Poochigroom in Kesgrave, and Four Paws Dog Grooming Ltd. Stone Beach Dog Grooming goes further still, working in the pet's own home and specialising in nervous and elderly dogs.
Mobile groomers
Two of the thirty businesses here work mobile rather than from a fixed salon: Suffolk Groomers, run by Melanie since around 2018 and covering Ipswich plus Needham Market, Stowmarket, Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Hadleigh and Manningtree, and Stone Beach Dog Grooming, a home-visit service based in Kesgrave specialising in nervous and elderly dogs. If you need someone to come to you outside these rounds, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel.
Cats and other animals
Hadleigh Pet Services grooms cats, rabbits and guinea pigs and offers horse clipping alongside its dog grooming. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.
Reviews
No business in this directory has an independently checked, dated star rating shown here. Some appeared with a star figure on directory aggregator sites during research, but none was confirmed on a platform this directory can verify and link to, so none is shown. Ask to see recent work or a reference rather than relying on a star count that isn't shown here.
Where they are
Coverage is heaviest in Ipswich itself (thirteen), followed by Woodbridge and Felixstowe (five each), Kesgrave (three), Hadleigh (two), and Martlesham and Needham Market the thinnest, at one confirmed independent business each. If you're in a thinner area, the nearest well-documented option or a mobile groomer covering your postcode is worth trying first.
