How to choose a dog groomer in Guildford

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 37 dog groomers across Guildford, Godalming, Farnham, Aldershot, Farnborough, Camberley, Woking and Cranleigh, ranging from long-established salons to home-based one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 37 businesses in this directory, 10 were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other independent source (marked high confidence). 14 are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, Facebook page or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site, or a phone number confirmed only via Google's own business listing rather than a groomer-specific source. 13 are low confidence, generally a single directory entry with a confirmed address and phone but nothing else to check against; each of those listings says so plainly and asks you to confirm details by phone.

Burpham & Merrow is thin

Only three groomers are confirmed for the Burpham & Merrow area, the smallest count of any area in this directory: Hair Off The Dog, Urban Paws and Tails, and Panache Pupz Ltd. That's not because the area lacks groomers so much as because the GU1/GU4 postcode overlap it covers is small and largely residential; the three found are well-documented independents, but if none of them suits, the nearest options sit next door in Guildford centre or Woking.

Two phone numbers shared between unrelated businesses

Two pairs of businesses in this batch share an identical phone number in the directories that list them, despite having different names and addresses; neither pair has been merged, since there's no evidence they're the same business, but each is flagged here so you can double-check you've reached the right one.

  • The Groom Room, in Dunsfold near Godalming, and Plush Pawz, in Alfold near Cranleigh, both show the landline 01483 200023 on an independent directory. Both are kept as separate listings here; confirm by phone which salon you've reached before booking.
  • Mr Scrufts Dog Grooming, in Camberley, shows the same number as a business called Matted Moggies Dirty Doggies, in Ash, Aldershot, on the same directory. Matted Moggies Dirty Doggies isn't published in this directory for being otherwise too thin on detail, but the shared number is still worth confirming by phone if you're calling Mr Scrufts.

Who was left out, and why

Three leads found during research don't appear in this directory, all for the same reason: no confirmed phone number. Los Perritos Dog Grooming (Boxgrove, Guildford), Snip Pets (Guildford) and Muddy to Fluffy (a mobile groomer in Farnham) each has a confirmed address but no phone number could be confirmed anywhere independent, including through a Google Places lookup that filled phone gaps for several other businesses in this batch. A cat-only groomer, Purrfect Cat Grooming in Guildford, was excluded because this directory covers dog groomers. A number of other leads around Chobham, Ripley and Blackwater fell outside the postcode ranges this edition covers, and a national chain, Pets at Home in Farnborough, was excluded as a matter of policy for this directory.

Chains and shared addresses

Dogwood Natural Pet Grooming Spa, run under Pets Corner, has three branches in this directory: Guildford (Woodbridge Road), Camberley (Princess Way) and Woking (High Street). Each is listed separately with its own address and phone number. Separately, 4 Paws, in Ash Vale near Aldershot, shares its Tudor House address with a business also seen under the name "Anne Morrison" on directory listings, suggesting more than one groomer may work from the same premises; it's listed once here, under 4 Paws, the more consistently repeated name. Nose to Tail Dog Grooming, in Farnham, trades from two addresses under owner Kate Swindells, its Upper Hale Road base and a second appointment address, Down The Rabbit Hole on Hope Lane, and is recorded here as one business rather than two.

Qualifications

City & Guilds training is the most commonly cited qualification: K-9 Klippers Of Knaphill (a Level 2 Certificate), Vanity Fur Dog Grooming Limited and Millie's Dog Grooming all mention it. Urban Paws and Tails' Bethan Eldridge is a Level 3 qualified groomer who is also a qualified dog nutritionist and behaviourist. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you; most of the businesses in this directory don't mention formal training at all.

One-to-one and home-based setups

Several businesses describe grooming one dog at a time rather than running a busy multi-dog salon floor: Scrub-A-Dub's and Mutzcutz Dog Grooming (both Aldershot), Millionhairs Dog Grooming Services (which specifically welcomes elderly, anxious and puppy clients, in Farnborough), K-9 Klippers Of Knaphill and Super Stunners Dog Grooming Studio (Cranleigh). Millie's Dog Grooming, in Mytchett, mentions training in Tellington TTouch, a calming technique for anxious dogs during grooming. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for a nervous dog, these are worth asking about directly.

Mobile groomers

Two of the 37 businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: BeautyPets, covering Guildford and Woking, and Nose to Tail Dog Grooming, covering Farnham and Alton. If you need someone to come to you outside these rounds, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel; a few, including K-9 Klippers Of Knaphill and Myra's Canine Beautician, offer a paid or local collection and drop-off service instead of a full mobile round.

Cats and other animals

No business confirmed for this directory grooms cats. A cat-only groomer, Purrfect Cat Grooming in Guildford, was excluded for grooming cats rather than dogs. If you need cat grooming alongside dog grooming, you'll need to look outside this list.

Reviews

No independently verifiable rating is shown for any business in this batch. Dogwood Natural Pet Grooming Spa's own website states "4.9 out of 5 with 160 reviews" for its Guildford branch, but gives no linked, fetchable review-platform page, so it isn't shown here, in line with this directory's rule of only linking a rating from an independent, verifiable source such as Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp. Ask to see recent work, a reference, or check for yourself on Google, before booking with any business listed here.

Where they are

Coverage is heaviest in Aldershot & Farnborough and Camberley & Frimley (six each), followed by Godalming and Woking (five each), then Farnham, Guildford centre and Cranleigh (four each); Burpham & Merrow, as above, is the thinnest at three. If you're in a thinner area, the nearest well-documented option, or a mobile groomer covering your postcode, is worth trying first.
