How to choose a dog groomer in Greenwich and south-east London
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 29 groomers across eight areas of Greenwich and south-east London: Greenwich and Blackheath (SE10, SE3, SE7), Deptford and New Cross (SE8, SE14), Camberwell and Peckham (SE5, SE15), Dulwich and Forest Hill (SE21, SE22, SE23), Sydenham and Penge (SE26, SE20), Woolwich and Thamesmead (SE18, SE28, SE2), Bermondsey and Rotherhithe (SE16), and Walworth and Elephant and Castle (SE17). Charlton (SE7) is grouped with Greenwich and Blackheath, and Abbey Wood and Belvedere (SE2) with Woolwich and Thamesmead, since each had a confirmed groomer that would otherwise sit outside any area on this site.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the 29 businesses listed, 12 were confirmed from a working website plus at least one other independent source (marked high confidence). Eleven are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, a Facebook or Instagram page, or a phone number confirmed independently rather than the business's own working site. Six are low confidence: Dirty Paws, EllieNancyGrooms, Paws & Pause (Peckham), Zee's Paws Grooming Studio, Pawsitivelypampered and VIP Grooming. Each of these carries a plain note in its listing that the details are from search results only and should be confirmed by phone before booking.
Websites worth knowing don't work
Four businesses have a website address on record that couldn't be reached or didn't return anything useful during research: The Greenwich Hound (a certificate error on the site), Bubbly Tails (the page loads empty), and Sydenham Grooming Salon and The Pet Grooming School (both fail to resolve). Their listings here leave out the broken link rather than send you to a dead page; call instead.
Who to check with before you call
The Dandy Hound in Peckham states on its own website that it is currently at capacity and not taking new grooming customers, so it's worth asking whether that has changed before you make plans around it. National chain branches, including several Pets at Home / The Groom Room salons found in this area, are excluded throughout this directory, as is standard across the network.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training is cited by a handful of businesses here: The Uptown Dog's grooming team (Level 3), Waggy Wagon's Sylvie Marks (Level 3, plus an aromatherapy diploma and British Isles Grooming Association membership), and The Spotlight Groomers' founders Vikki Staples and Gordana Susak, who between them have more than 40 years of grooming experience. Hair of the Doggy's owner Alan trained under Heidi Anderton, a former Groomer of the Year and Groom Team England member. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and home-based setups
Several businesses describe grooming one dog at a time rather than running a busy multi-dog salon floor: The Uptown Dog, La Niche Dog Grooming, Rita's Grooming and Walking and Bubbly Tails all mention a one-to-one format. Bubbly Tails, EllieNancyGrooms, Zee's Paws Grooming Studio, Pawsitivelypampered and Bella PetSpa are all run from a home rather than a shopfront; none of the 29 businesses here describe themselves as a mobile groomer that travels to your home, so if that's what you need, ask a home-based groomer whether they'll make an exception.
Cats and other animals
Sydenham Grooming Salon and Dogged Up both groom cats alongside dogs. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.
Reviews
No business in this directory carries a shown rating. None of the independent review profiles this network accepts, Google Maps, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp, could be confirmed for any of the 29 during research, so ask to see recent work, a reference, or photos of previous grooms instead of relying on a star rating you can't check yourself.
Where they are, and where they're thin
Coverage is heaviest in Dulwich and Forest Hill (6), followed by Greenwich and Blackheath, Camberwell and Peckham, and Woolwich and Thamesmead (5 each), Sydenham and Penge (3), Deptford and New Cross and Bermondsey and Rotherhithe (2 each), and Walworth and Elephant and Castle, where Hair of the Doggy is the only business found. Two named districts have no independent groomer at all within their own postcode: Blackheath itself (SE3) and Thamesmead (SE28) each turned up nothing beyond a national chain branch, so the nearest listed options, in Greenwich, Charlton, Woolwich or Belvedere, are the practical choice if you're based there.
