How to choose a dog groomer in Exeter
Dog grooming is not a regulated trade in the UK, so there's no licence or inspection to check before booking. This directory does the groundwork it can: confirming a working phone number, cross-checking addresses and facts across more than one source where possible, and being plain about what it couldn't confirm. Here's what that turned up across the 23 groomers listed for Exeter, Exmouth, Crediton and Tiverton.
How well documented each business is
Eleven of the 23 are high confidence, meaning the details come from the business's own working website plus at least one other independent source: The Groom Pad, The Dog Box, The Dog-Groomer, Pip's Pet Services, Perfect Paws Grooming & Spa Ltd, Muddy Buddys Mobile Dog Grooming, A Dog's Day Out (Pinhoe), Blade Runners Dog Grooming, Star Paws Dog Grooming, Grooming Marvellous and Castle Hill Dog Grooming. Nine are medium confidence, usually meaning the phone number came from a directory listing, a Google Places check or a Facebook page rather than the business's own site. Three are low confidence, and say so plainly on their listing: The Pet Patrol and Clean Cuts, both found on a single pet-services directory with no independent second source, and Devon Doggies, a mobile groomer confirmed the same way. Confirm the details for these three by phone before relying on them.
Five businesses left out for lack of a confirmed phone
Ruby Red Dog Grooming, a home-based Topsham-area studio run by Donna Corbin, and Divine Dogs Pet Grooming in Crediton (trading from the former Mucky Mutts Dog Grooming premises on the High Street) both have working websites or booking pages but no phone number that could be independently confirmed, only a contact form or an older number tied to a previous operator. Storming Cuts Dog Grooming, Blondies Groom Room and Ruby's Grooming Room, all in Exmouth or Crediton, exist only as a Facebook page with no confirmed phone number either. None of the five appears in this directory, per the rule that publication needs a confirmed phone. This is also why Topsham currently has no listed groomer: Ruby Red was the only lead there.
An address worth double-checking
The Groom Pad's usual address, 39 Pinn Hill in Pinhoe, recurs across its own site and other sources and is used here, but one directory listing gives a different address, in Broadclyst, for the same phone number. The Dog-Groomer has a similar case: a second address, under the name "Wendy The Dog-Groomer", appears for the same phone number as its usual Matford premises, treated here as one business, possibly trading from a second or updated site. Confirm the address by phone before turning up in person for either.
Also excluded
Groomtastic Exeter, previously in Heavitree, shows as dissolved at Companies House since July 2026 and was left out as likely closed rather than listed on stale information. Pets at Home Groom Room, seen for both Exeter and Tiverton, was excluded as a national chain rather than an independent local groomer. A handful of names that turned up only in an unsourced search summary, without a traceable page, address or phone number, were not included either, rather than guessed at.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training comes up most often: Kim Goodier at The Groom Pad, Anna at The Dog Box (also DBS checked and first-aid trained) and the groomer behind Grooms by Mandy at Pinhoe all hold it. Wendy at The Dog-Groomer is an International Certified Master Groomer with around 30 years' experience. Lorna at Blade Runners Dog Grooming trained through the British Dog Grooming Association and City & Guilds, qualified since 2010. Lindsey Pannell at Grooming Marvellous holds an NVQ Level 2. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you; several businesses here publish no training details at all.
One-to-one and home-based setups
If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious dog, several businesses describe working this way: The Groom Pad (one-to-one by appointment, two Hydrobaths, no cage or cabinet dryers), The Dog Box ("a high quality, personal grooming service rather than a high-volume salon"), and Blade Runners Dog Grooming, which works from a home studio with a large fenced garden, one dog at a time unless from the same household.
Mobile groomers
Four of the 23 come to you rather than the other way round: Miller - Moo's Dog Grooming and Muddy Buddys Mobile Dog Grooming, both based in Pinhoe and covering Exeter and the surrounding area, Devon Doggies in Exmouth, and 4 Paws to Doors, covering Bow and Crediton within around a fifteen-mile radius. None publishes call-out pricing, so confirm it covers your postcode and what it costs before booking.
Reviews
No business in this directory carries a rating here. Several appear with star ratings on general directory-aggregator sites, but none of those has an independently verifiable Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page behind it, so none is shown; ask to see recent work or a reference instead.
Where the gaps are
Coverage is heaviest in Pinhoe and Exmouth (six each), followed by St Thomas (five), then Exeter city centre and Crediton (two each), with Heavitree and Tiverton each down to a single confirmed groomer and Topsham currently with none. If you're in a thinner area, a mobile groomer covering your postcode, or the nearest well-documented salon, is worth trying first.
