How to choose a dog groomer in Dunfermline and west Fife

Seen through a glass partition, an owner in the waiting area watches a groomer blow-drying a golden Cockapoo on the table

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 21 dog groomers across two areas: Dunfermline itself (KY12) and Rosyth, Inverkeithing & Dalgety Bay (KY11). Stirling and the towns around it, and Kirkcaldy and the Fife coast, each have their own dedicated page elsewhere on this site and are no longer covered here.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 21 businesses listed, one, Sittin' Pretty Dog Grooming in Rosyth, is high confidence: a working business website, a Companies House record and independent directory listings all agree. Sixteen are medium confidence, usually meaning the address and phone number are confirmed by two independent directory listings, a directory plus a Facebook or Instagram page, or a phone number checked separately against a Google Places record. Four are low confidence: Wags Cat and Dog Grooming, Shining Coats Dog Wash, Fresh Paws Dog Grooming and Coco's Groom Room, each found on a single directory listing or social page with no working website to check it against. Each of those four says so plainly in its listing here and asks you to confirm the details by phone before booking.

Two duplicates, merged rather than double-listed

Two names found during research turned out to share a premises with a business already listed, rather than being a second, separate business: The Doggy Dazzler, given by one directory at the same 43 Carnegie Drive address as Sophie's Dog House, and Paws Up Grooming, given at the same 115 Queensferry Road, Rosyth address as Sittin' Pretty Dog Grooming, with no independent Facebook or Instagram presence found for either name on its own. Both are treated as the same business under its better-documented name rather than listed twice.

Four places with no groomer found

A genuine search turned up no confirmed groomer trading from Dalgety Bay, Limekilns, Charlestown or North Queensferry themselves. A couple of names sometimes given for Dalgety Bay online, including "The Dog House" and "Waggly Tails", turned out on checking to be a Luton business and an aggregator listing with no fixed Fife address respectively, so neither is included here; Perfect Pets, the nearest confirmed option, is actually based in Inverkeithing. If you're in one of these four places, expect to travel into Dunfermline, Rosyth or Inverkeithing, or check whether Never Ending Pawfection's mobile round, which explicitly covers Dalgety Bay, reaches your street.

Qualifications

City & Guilds training is the qualification most often cited here: Luv A Dug's Paula holds a City & Guilds diploma, Sittin' Pretty's Megan is City & Guilds qualified and first-aid trained, Ruff Cuts' Alan is City & Guilds trained, and both Well Groomed and Fresh Paws Dog Grooming describe themselves as City & Guilds qualified. Coco's Groom Room instead cites a PGA diploma in dog grooming plus pet first-aid training. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.

Home-based and one-to-one setups

Seven of the 21 businesses here work from a home rather than a shopfront: Well Groomed, Allsorts Dog Grooming, Groom Groom, Doggy Doos Dog Grooming & Dog Walking, Fresh Paws Dog Grooming, Hair Off The Dog and Sheila's Dog Beautician. Several also describe a one-to-one format explicitly, grooming a single dog at a time rather than running a multi-dog salon floor: Sophie's Dog House, Megans Mutts, Groom Groom, Coco's Groom Room and Never Ending Pawfection. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for a nervous or reactive dog, these are worth asking about first.

Mobile groomers and cats

Three of the 21 businesses run a mobile service: Dial-A-Dog-Wash (Fife), a local franchisee of the UK-wide mobile dog-wash network working a defined Fife round; Luv A Dug, which mentions a mobile service alongside its fixed Dunfermline address; and Never Ending Pawfection, mobile-only, covering a wide round from Dalgety Bay to Cowdenbeath. If you want a cat groomed alongside a dog, Wags Cat and Dog Grooming, Coco's Groom Room and Never Ending Pawfection all list cat grooming; everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.

Reviews

11 of the 21 groomers listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. Ratings are only ever shown when they come from a business's own profile on an allowed, independently verifiable platform, Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp, with at least three reviews; no such profile could be confirmed for any business in this town during research. The absence of a star rating on a listing here is not a mark against the business, only a reflection of what could be independently verified at the time of writing, so ask to see recent work, a reference, or photos of previous grooms instead.

Where they are

Rosyth, Inverkeithing & Dalgety Bay has the larger share, 14 of the 21 businesses, against seven for Dunfermline itself, even though Dunfermline is by far the bigger town of the two. That's a reflection of what a genuine search turned up rather than a claim that Dunfermline has fewer groomers in reality; a further pass using tools this research role doesn't have access to would likely surface more home-based groomers on the Dunfermline side.
