How much does dog grooming cost in Dumfries, Galloway and the Borders in 2026?

A groomer pointing out a price list on the counter to a waiting customer

This directory covers 64 dog groomers across Dumfries and Galloway, the Scottish Borders and the Berwick corner of Northumberland, and only two of them publish any prices at all. Neither of those two publishes the price of a standard full groom. That is the honest starting point for anyone trying to budget, so rather than guess at a typical price for the region, this guide sets out exactly what is on record and what to ask when you ring.

The prices that are published, September 2026

GroomerWhereWhat is published
CC GroomsEttrickhaugh, SelkirkPuppy package from £30; fear-free grooming session from £50; one-day basic grooming course for owners £185
The Barkin BarberMobile, based at Duncow north of DumfriesEyes-only tidy £5; nails-only visit from £10; full grooms quoted by breed, size and coat condition

CC Grooms, run by Carol Cazaly, who holds a City and Guilds Level 3 diploma, lists a puppy package from £30 and a fear-free session from £50. The fear-free sessions are desensitisation work for anxious dogs rather than a normal groom, and the £185 figure is a course for owners who want to learn basic grooming themselves, not a service for the dog. The standard adult groom is not priced on her site.

The Barkin Barber, a City and Guilds qualified mobile groomer trading since 2017, prices only its small add-on visits: £5 for an eyes-only tidy and from £10 for nails only. Its own listing says full groom prices vary with breed, size and coat condition, which is why it does not publish a list.

One other business, Furbabies Pet Boarding & Dog Grooming in New Galloway, states plainly that grooming prices are on request. The remaining 61 say nothing about price online. Because of this, the business listings on this site show "Price on request" for every groomer here, including the two above, since a puppy package or a nails-only visit is not a fair stand-in for the headline full-groom figure the listings are meant to show.

Why so few publish a price here

Most groomers in this region run on a Facebook page and a phone number. Of the 64 listed, only eleven have a working website of their own, and several more had a domain that has since stopped resolving. Many are sole traders working from home or from a cottage, and a good number keep part-week hours: McLaren's Mutts in Annan and Pooches Grooming in Castle Douglas open three days a week, and Emma's Laundromutt in Castle Douglas opens Tuesday to Thursday from 10 to 2. A business at that scale tends to quote by phone once it knows the dog, rather than maintain a list.

What changes the price, according to what these groomers list

  • Hand stripping. Listed by a large share of the groomers here, including Little Dog Cabin, Dunragit Grooming, Pawfection in Selkirk, Hairy Bairns, Agnes' salon, Maude & Eddie's, 4 Paws Grooming, Wot A Clip!, Strip 'n' Go and Norfolk Terriers North East. It takes longer than a clip, so ask for it to be quoted separately.
  • Add-ons. The Grooming Lounge in Dumfries lists mud baths and teeth cleaning; Border Pet Sitting & Grooming at Eastriggs lists deep conditioning, a mud bath and teeth cleaning; Whitglen outside Hawick lists teeth cleaning alongside hydrotherapy; K-9 Grooming in Galashiels combines grooming with dental care. Ask whether these are priced on top of the groom.
  • Collection and delivery. Ashleys Grooming Room in Lockerbie, Wuffians at Lochanhead and Strip 'n' Go in Tweedmouth all offer pick-up and drop-off. Ask whether it is included.
  • Mobile versus salon. Cairnsmore Grooming at Terregles runs both a salon and a van covering roughly 20 miles; Muddy Mutts works in the dog's own home; Nithview travels door to door from Auldgirth; Wendy's Wag & Wheels runs a van from Tweedmouth. Say which you want when you ask for a price.
  • Cancellations. Pawlished Paws Groomer in Annan is the only business here to publish a cancellation policy: 48 hours' notice, or a fee of half the booking inside that window.

How to get a real quote

Every groomer in this directory has a confirmed phone number, and for most of them the phone is the only route. Have three things ready when you call: your dog's breed or cross, its rough weight, and an honest description of the coat, including any matting, because the Barkin Barber's note that price depends on coat condition applies everywhere even where it is not written down. Ask what the quoted price includes; Ashleys Grooming Room, for instance, says every groom includes a bath, ear care, nails and cologne, while other salons may treat some of those as extras. If your dog is nervous, say so: CC Grooms prices its fear-free sessions separately, and Summerville Dog Grooming & Spa at Clarencefield offers a meet-and-treat introductory visit, so ask whether that is charged.

One thing to rule out: the canine rescue centre at Glencaple runs a do-it-yourself wash room at £6 for half an hour. It is a charity wash bay, not a grooming service, and it is not the same as The Grooming Room at Garroch Roundabout in Dumfries.
