How to choose a dog groomer in Derry and the north west
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This is a smaller, more rural edition of this directory than most: 20 confirmed groomers across Derry city and five smaller towns and villages to its east, ranging from long-established salons with their own website to home-based, one-person operations found through a single online listing. Check how well the business is documented
Of the 20 businesses listed, two were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other independent source (marked high confidence): Highmoor Hounds and Hair of the Dog Grooming Salon & Boutique. Seventeen are medium confidence, usually meaning the address and phone number come from a single detailed online listing, or are corroborated across more than one source, rather than the business's own working site. One, Furballs Dog Groomers in the Kilfennan area of Derry, is low confidence: no postcode was found for it anywhere, only the general district, and its listing here says so plainly, with a note to confirm details by phone.
Two flagged same-phone pairs, and a naming conflict
Shampooch, on Irish Green Street in Limavady, and PAWfections by Nicki, on Scroggy Road in Limavady, share the exact same phone number despite being recorded at two different addresses under two different names; one source suggests Shampooch may have closed and been succeeded by PAWfections, but that claim doesn't match the two confirmed addresses, so it couldn't be verified either way. Both are listed separately, each flagging the other, with a note to confirm by phone which business you're actually booking. Pampered Pooches Kilrea and Pampered Pooches Coleraine share both their name and their phone number at two premises a few miles apart; this looks like one operator running two locations rather than two coincidentally identical businesses, so both are kept in, again with a confirm-by-phone note. Separately, Gal-Groom in Ballymena is also named "Ya Filthy Animal" at the identical address and phone number on a different source; this listing uses Gal-Groom, the name given by the more detailed source, but flags the alternative and asks you to confirm by phone which name it currently trades under.
Who was left out, and why
Four leads found in research don't appear in this directory because no confirmed phone number could be found: Catwalk Dogs Grooming Salon & Doggie Daycare (one online listing shows its phone as "not available"), Abbie's Groom Room (a single newspaper feature, no phone or postcode anywhere), Wizard of Pawz in Ballymoney (its phone number is masked behind a "reveal number" click on the only listing it appears on) and Dog Days North Coast in Limavady, which turned out to be primarily a day care centre that lists grooming as one of several on-site services rather than a dedicated salon. Three more leads, Dapper Dogs Mobile Grooming, Bark 'N' Bubbles and Fluffy & Fabulous, were described in search results as mobile services covering Derry or Limavady, but no address, postcode or phone number could be found for any of them beyond a social media page, so none is recorded. National in-store chains, including the Pets at Home Groom Room and a supermarket pet-store's in-store grooming rebrand, were deliberately excluded, as was Poochie Mamas in Maghera, whose BT46 postcode falls just outside the areas this edition covers.
Qualifications
Scruffy Muttz Dog Grooming Salon in Limavady is run by mother and daughter Jaimie and Ayliyah, both Level 3 qualified in dog grooming. D&M Groomers, in Londonderry, runs a Level 3 diploma course in dog grooming and salon management alongside its grooming service. Blissful Brush Dog Grooming is run by Alison, a qualified veterinary nursing assistant who has also completed a Pet First Aid course. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you; most of the remaining businesses here don't publish one.
Family-run and single-groomer setups
Several businesses describe themselves as small or family run: Pampered Paws K9, whose staff say they have experience with nervous dogs, and Scruffy Muttz, run by a mother-and-daughter team. Highmoor Hounds and Bark N Beauty both trade as a single named groomer's business rather than a multi-staff salon. If a calm, one-person setting matters for a nervous or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.
Mobile groomers
No business confirmed in this edition works from a van; every one of the 20 is based at a fixed salon, unit or home address. A small number of mobile leads came up in research, covering Derry, Limavady and the surrounding area, but none could be confirmed with a real address or phone number, so none is listed (see above).
Cats and other animals

Where they are
Coverage is heaviest in Derry city itself, with 10 confirmed groomers, followed by Limavady (4) and Coleraine & Portrush (3, though all three of these are actually based in Kilrea and Blackhill, on the rural edge of the district, not in Coleraine town centre, Portstewart or Portrush). Ballymoney & Ballymena has one confirmed groomer, Gal-Groom, based in Ballymena; nothing was confirmed as based in Ballymoney town itself. Enniskillen has two confirmed groomers, Perfect Pets Place and Grub n Groom, both actually based in Kesh, a village around 20 miles from Enniskillen town. Strabane, Omagh and Cookstown & Magherafelt have no confirmed groomer at all in this edition -- not because none exist, but because research could not find one with a verifiable address or phone number in any of these three areas.
