How to choose a dog groomer in Dartford and Gravesend

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 28 groomers with a confirmed phone number across eight areas of Dartford and Gravesend: Dartford (DA1, DA2), Longfield and Hartley (DA3), Bexley village (DA5), Erith and Belvedere (DA8, DA17), Greenhithe and Swanscombe (DA9, DA10), Gravesend and Northfleet (DA11, DA12), Meopham and Istead Rise (DA13), and Welling and Thamesmead (DA16, DA18). Read this before you pick a groomer.

Coverage is uneven — know where the gaps are

Of the 35 businesses found during research, 28 had a phone number we could confirm, and publishing is limited to those 28. That leaves real gaps by area: Gravesend and Northfleet has 9 published groomers and Dartford has 7, but Longfield and Hartley has just 1, Bexley village and Meopham and Istead Rise each have 2, Welling and Thamesmead has 3, and Greenhithe and Swanscombe has none at all — no dog groomer based in either Greenhithe or Swanscombe could be confirmed with a working phone number during this research round.

Within Welling and Thamesmead, all three published businesses (Just Grooming and More, Pets Come First and Linda's Grooming Centre) are based in Welling itself; no groomer based in Thamesmead could be confirmed. Wet Paws, based in Belvedere and listed under Erith and Belvedere, states on its own site that it also travels to Thamesmead along with Bexleyheath, Bexley, Abbey Wood, Erith, Welling, Slade Green, Plumstead, Crayford and Barnehurst — so a mobile visit from a neighbouring base is currently the closest thing to Thamesmead coverage this directory can confirm.

Why 10 businesses aren't listed

Seven of the 35 businesses found could not be published because no phone number could be confirmed for them from any source: The Hound Machine, Woof Woof Grooming, Scruffy Dogs and Little Rascals Dog Grooming Service in Dartford; K9 Posh Wash in Bexley village; cute cutz dog grooming in Greenhithe and Swanscombe; and Michelle's In Home Pet Grooming in Welling and Thamesmead. A later phone-lookup pass has since confirmed a number for three businesses previously excluded on this ground — Purrfect Pooches in Dartford, Flossy Dog Grooming in Gravesend and Northfleet, and Linda's Grooming Centre in Welling and Thamesmead — and they are now listed above. A national chain, Pets at Home Gravesend, was left off on purpose too — this directory covers independent groomers, not retail chains. If you know of a business missing from this list, especially in a thin area, let us know and we'll look into adding it once a phone number can be confirmed.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 28 published businesses, 8 are high confidence (confirmed from the business's own working website plus at least one other source), 13 are medium confidence (typically confirmed via a directory or secondary source rather than a live business website), and 7 are low confidence, meaning what's published is from search results and directory listings only. Those 7 — Kingly's Dog Grooming Salon, Carrie's Crufty Cuts, The Dog House Grooming24, Hudson's Hounds, Doggy Base, I Love Lucy's Dog Grooming and Pets Come First — carry a note on their listing to confirm details by phone before you book, since less could be independently verified about them.

Qualifications and specialisms, where stated

Several groomers state formal qualifications: Woodland Paws' owner is a City & Guilds qualified tutor and assessor who also runs a training academy alongside the salon; Louisa's Grooming Salon's groomer is City & Guilds qualified and a Guild of Master Groomers member with British Grooming Championship wins; The Contented Canine Company is owned by Jo Clark, who holds a degree in Applied Animal Behavioural Science and Welfare alongside a City & Guilds qualification, and the salon specialises in dogs anxious about grooming; Collar & Comb Dog Grooming's groomer holds a Level 3 diploma and is insured for XL Bullies. If a particular qualification matters to you, ask for it directly — most listings here don't state one either way, which doesn't mean the groomer lacks it, only that it isn't published.

One-to-one, mobile and multi-service setups

Collar & Comb Dog Grooming and I Love Lucy's Dog Grooming both describe themselves as one-to-one salons, meaning your dog is the only one being groomed at a time. Seven of the 28 are mobile groomers coming to your home rather than a fixed salon: Carrie's Crufty Cuts, Dog 'N' Comb, Groom Armada, About Grooming Time, Otto & Alice Mobile Grooming Studio, Doggy Base and Flossy Dog Grooming. A few combine grooming with other services worth knowing about: Groom Armada also offers dog walking and pet sitting, and Pets Come First combines grooming with daycare and boarding, so grooming is one part of a wider offering rather than its sole focus there.

Cats and other animals

If you also have a cat, LGK Pet Grooming, Collar & Comb Dog Grooming, Just Grooming and More, Pets Come First and Linda's Grooming Centre all state they groom cats as well as dogs; LGK Pet Grooming also grooms small animals. Wet Paws explicitly does not groom cats, so check before assuming a salon covers every pet in the house.

Reviews

No verifiable rating from an allowed independent source (Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp, each with a working link) was found for any of the 28 businesses in this listing. Where a business's own site mentions awards or praise, such as Fur Babies Pet Spa's 2024 England Business Awards nomination, that is noted on its page as a claim from the business itself, not as an independent rating.
