How to choose a dog groomer in Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers a large, mostly rural stretch of west Wales spanning eight postcode areas: Carmarthen (SA31 to SA33), Llanelli outskirts and Kidwelly (SA17), Ammanford and Llandeilo (SA18 to SA19), Llandovery and Lampeter (SA20 and SA48), Haverfordwest (SA61 to SA62), Milford Haven, Pembroke and Pembroke Dock (SA71 to SA73), Tenby, Saundersfoot and Kilgetty (SA68 to SA70), and Cardigan and Newcastle Emlyn (SA38, SA43 to SA44). Coverage across these towns is genuinely uneven, and this page says so plainly rather than papering over the gaps.
Coverage is thin in most of these areas
Only 14 of the 32 dog groomers researched here have a phone number confirmed well enough to publish, so the counts below are lower than the true number of groomers working in each area. As published:
- Carmarthen: 3 groomers
- Llanelli outskirts & Kidwelly: 4 groomers
- Ammanford & Llandeilo: 2 groomers
- Llandovery & Lampeter: 0 groomers based in the area
- Haverfordwest: 1 groomer
- Milford Haven, Pembroke & Pembroke Dock: 2 groomers
- Tenby, Saundersfoot & Kilgetty: 1 groomer
- Cardigan & Newcastle Emlyn: 1 groomer
Llandovery and Lampeter has no groomer based there at all among the confirmed 14. The nearest coverage is Clip & Style, based in Newcastle Emlyn, which grooms one day a week, Thursdays, from a second address in Lampeter itself; that's noted on its own listing here, but it means Llandovery specifically has no confirmed groomer of any kind yet, based or visiting. Haverfordwest, Tenby/Saundersfoot/Kilgetty and Cardigan/Newcastle Emlyn are each down to a single confirmed business, so treat those area pages as a starting point rather than a full picture. None of this reflects how many groomers actually work in these towns; it reflects how many currently have a phone number this directory could confirm.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the 14 published, 4 are high confidence (confirmed from the business's own working website, in most cases with a second source too): Dog and Bone Dog Grooming, Diamonds in the Ruff Pet Spa, Scruffbags Dog Grooming and Clip & Style. 7 are medium confidence, meaning the address and phone came from a single structured online listing or a search result quoting one, without a second source to check it against. 3 are low confidence and carry a note that the details are from search results only, confirm by phone: Pets Top Groomers and Celtic Canine Cuts, both in Kidwelly, and Dial a Dog Wash, the mobile van covering Kidwelly and Cefneithin. For any of these three, treat the address and services as a starting point for a phone call rather than a settled fact.
Who was left out, and why
18 of the 32 researched businesses aren't published yet, all for the same reason: no phone number could be confirmed for them, even though most have a confirmed address. That group includes The Dog Unit Groomers and Cwtsh Y Ci Bespoke Dog Grooming in Carmarthen; Amikaya Dog Grooming near Ammanford and Pretty Pawfect Grooming Salon near Llandeilo; Fluff Stuff Dog Grooming, the only lead found for Lampeter itself; several Haverfordwest and Pembrokeshire-coast businesses (Barks and Bubbles, Pawsitively Dach-shing, Sparkles Dog Grooming, Pawfection, Woofers Pet Grooming Salon, Bubbles Boutique Dog Groomers, Pooch Purfect and Shampooches); and Master Groom and Barbers Dog Grooming near Tenby, plus Tidy Paws Grooming Services near Cardigan. Two more, Donna's Dog Grooming and Muttley Crue Dog Groomers, have neither a confirmed address nor a phone number; for Muttley Crue, a web search suggested an address that turned out to match a different Newcastle Emlyn business almost exactly, so rather than guess, no address is recorded for it at all. A phone lookup pass is planned once the tool used for it is working again, after which some or all of these 18 should be added, with a note here once that happens. Separately, a handful of other businesses were checked and ruled out for good: national franchise branches of a pet-supply chain's grooming service near Carmarthen and Llanelli, and several groomers based in Llanelli town itself, Narberth, Fishguard, Clynderwen or Whitland, which fall in neighbouring postcode areas outside this town's eight districts.
Qualifications and how they work
Where a qualification is confirmed, it's usually City & Guilds or an equivalent industry diploma: Dog and Bone Dog Grooming's Chris holds a Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management plus a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare and a Level 3 Award in Canine Oral Hygiene, and Tidy Dog Grooming & Spa in Haverfordwest says all of its groomers hold iPET Level 3 qualifications, alongside running as an iPET-approved training centre. Several others describe themselves as one-to-one or one-dog-at-a-time operations rather than running several dogs through the salon side by side: Diamonds in the Ruff Pet Spa, Scruffbags Dog Grooming and Pupgrade Dog Grooming's strict one-dog policy in Kidwelly all work this way, which can suit nervous, older or reactive dogs better than a busier salon.
Mobile coverage
Only one of the 14 published businesses is a genuinely mobile operation: Dial a Dog Wash, covering Kidwelly and Cefneithin from a van rather than a fixed address. Everyone else on this page works from a salon, garden studio or home base and expects you to bring your dog to them, so check that before assuming a home visit is on offer.
Reviews and ratings
No star rating is shown for any of the 14 businesses on this page. That's not a judgement on the quality of their work; it's because no Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page with a genuine review history was found and verified for any of them during this research round, and this directory doesn't show a rating pulled from an online listing or a business's own website. If a verifiable rating turns up later, it will be added, with a link to check it yourself.
