How to choose a dog groomer in Cambridge

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers nineteen groomers across Cambridge, Histon, Sawston and Ely, from long-established village salons to home-based, one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the nineteen businesses here, three were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other independent source (marked high confidence): Wagglebumz, Nat's Pawfection and Groom2U. Fifteen are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, a Facebook page, or a phone number confirmed independently after the business's own listing gave none. One, Dapper Dog Grooming in Cambridge, is low confidence: its address and phone number were found only via a single aggregator directory and a pet-services profile page, with no business-owned site to check against, and its listing here says so plainly.

Who was left out, and why

Four leads with an address or a public profile were left out of this directory entirely because no phone number could be confirmed for any of them: Pampered Pets Mobile Dog Grooming, Top Dogs Cambridge, The Dog Bar (Cottenham/Histon area) and KAY9 Dog Grooming in Waterbeach. A further set of leads were excluded as out of area rather than force-fitted in: Fairy Dog Mother Pet Grooming, a well-documented, multi-award-winning business, is based in Fenstanton, roughly nine miles away and outside all seven areas this directory covers, and several leads from wider Cambridgeshire-wide directory listings resolved to Huntingdon, Peterborough, Wisbech, Bedfordshire or Hertfordshire once checked, not to Cambridge, Histon, Sawston or Ely. Mollys Mischievous Mutts appeared twice in county-wide listings with two different addresses and phone fragments; rather than guess which was current, it was left out. A national in-store chain, the Pets at Home Groom Room in the Beehive Centre, was excluded as a matter of policy. Two other names, a Cambridge Facebook page called Groom in Your Room and a business called Shampooch and Set whose old domain now belongs to an unrelated London groomer, needed care: the first could not be confirmed as a genuinely separate business from a same-named London operator and was dropped, while the second is listed here from directory sources only, with the stale domain not used as its website.

Qualifications

Formal training comes up for several businesses: Dapper Dog Grooming (Level 2), Shampooch and Set (OCN Level 3 Diploma, trained with Amy Manser), Falkor Dog Boarding (City & Guilds NVQ Level 3), and Groom2U, where Rachel Gooch holds a Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and Salon Management alongside training in dog behaviour and canine first aid. Handsome Hounds Ely is run by a groomer who is also a qualified dog behaviourist. K9 Dog Grooming, based inside the College of West Anglia's Milton campus, is a training salon staffed by grooming students working under qualified technicians rather than a conventional commercial salon. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.

One-to-one and home-based setups

Several businesses describe grooming one dog at a time rather than running a busy salon floor: Cambridge Home Grooming and Shampooch and Set both work from a single dedicated space (a client's own home, or a purpose-built parlour), Plush Puppies Dog Grooming offers one-to-one dog grooming from its Hardwick premises, and Nat's Pawfection in Soham grooms strictly one-to-one, by appointment, and says on its own site that dogs are never crated. If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for a nervous or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.

Mobile groomers

Two of the nineteen businesses here work from a van or come to your home rather than running a fixed salon: Cambridge Home Grooming, an in-home service covering Cambridge, and Groom2U, a van-based mobile groomer working set days from a base in Ely. If you need someone to come to you outside these two, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel.

Cats and other animals

Cambridge Home Grooming grooms cats as well as dogs, working inside the client's own home. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.

Reviews

No business in this directory has an independently checked, dated star rating shown here. Plush Puppies Dog Grooming's research turned up a recommendation figure from one review aggregator, but it is not from a source this directory can verify and link to (Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp), so it is not shown. Ask to see recent work, or a reference, rather than relying on a star count that isn't shown here.

Where they are, and the three areas with nothing yet

Coverage is heaviest around Ely (eleven groomers, including several in Soham and Littleport within the same postcode district), followed by Cambridge itself (four), Histon and Cottenham (three), and Sawston (one, in the neighbouring village of Whittlesford). Cherry Hinton, Chesterton and Trumpington currently show no groomer based inside them; every lead checked for these three areas either turned out to be nowhere near Cambridge or came from a generic county-wide search that named no business actually inside the ward. These are established residential areas close to the city centre, so they are plausibly served in practice by the mobile and home-visit groomers already listed under Cambridge, such as Cambridge Home Grooming, rather than by a salon with its own premises; their area pages will show no listings until a business is confirmed there. If you are in one of these three areas, a mobile groomer covering the wider city, or the nearest well-documented salon, is worth trying first.
