How to choose a dog groomer in Bristol
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. Bristol's thirty-four listed groomers range from decorated, decades-old salons to home-based one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the thirty-four businesses in this directory, fourteen were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence). Seventeen are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, Facebook page or a single secondary source rather than the business's own working site. Three, Cindybaby Animal Pamper (Bristol centre), K9 Cuts (Bedminster) and Dogs Body (Bradley Stoke), are low confidence: each is confirmed only through a directory aggregator listing with no own website or verified street address, and their listings here say so plainly.
Two businesses left out for lack of a phone number
Cornish Canine Cutz, on Hall Street in Bedminster Down, and Cut & Cuddle Pet Groomers, on Box Walk in Keynsham, both turned up in research with an address but no independently confirmed phone number from any source checked, so neither is listed here.
Address and identity conflicts, flagged not merged
Lovely Pups, on Gloucester Road, has a second, older listing giving a different address near Rowe Vets on Gloucester Road North in Filton and a different phone prefix for a business of the same name; this has not been resolved as the same or a separate business, so the possibility of a mix-up is flagged in its listing rather than silently merged. A domain calling itself "Barkers", given by one aggregator as a Kingswood grooming business, turned out on checking to be an unrelated salon in Bletchingley, Surrey, and the same postcode and phone number it carried also matched an existing House of Hounds listing that gives a different phone on its own site; "Barkers" was dropped rather than published with a wrong or duplicated number. An early broad search also conflated Bath and Biscuits with Coopers Cuts Dog Grooming into one entry at Hillier Garden Centre; checking resolved them as two separate businesses at different Bath addresses, and both are listed separately here.
Chains and out-of-area businesses excluded
Pets at Home Groom Room branches at Filton, Bradley Stoke, Emerson's Green and Imperial Retail Park were excluded as the recurring national chain. Several well-documented businesses were excluded purely on location: About The Dog's five branches sit in Henleaze, Thornbury, Chipping Sodbury, Nailsworth and Wotton-under-Edge, all outside this directory's postcode range; The Dog Saloon (Southmead), Sassy Paws by Sophie (Whitchurch, no confirmed address), The L.A. Dog Den and Gatcombe Dog Grooming (both Long Ashton), Sweet Pea's Dog Grooming (Winford), and Kacey's K9s and Snip Happens (both Brislington) all fall outside the eight named areas or their immediate postcode neighbours. One further groomer, working from Foxfield Avenue in Bradley Stoke, was dropped because no confirmed business name for the operator could be found.
Qualifications
City & Guilds training comes up most often: Clifton Dog Grooming, Happy Hounds Dog Grooming's Kate, Atastar Dog Grooming (more than 30 years in the trade, with British Dog Groomer of the Year titles in 1995, 2002 and 2008), Simply Pawsome's Debbie, Pawtishead Dog Grooming's Maria and Scruff Shack's Abi (Level 2 and 3) all cite it. Liza & Simba's is Level 3 qualified with canine first aid and behaviour certification, and Scruffy 2 Fluffy Dog Groomers holds an iPET Network Level 3 Diploma. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.
One-to-one and home-based setups
Several businesses describe working with one dog at a time or from a home setting rather than a busy salon floor: Clifton Dog Grooming (appointment-only), House of Hounds (a quiet home salon with pick-up and drop-off), Simply Pawsome (a converted summerhouse studio), Scruff Shack (a home salon in Patchway) and Lyde Green Pet Grooming (a purpose-built wooden cabin). If a calm, single-appointment setting matters for an anxious or reactive dog, these are worth asking about directly.
Mobile groomers
Two of the thirty-four businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Cindybaby Animal Pamper, covering the BS1/BS2 inner-city area, and Bark n Groom Mobile Dog Wash & Grooming, working from a Kingswood base. If you need someone to come to you outside these rounds, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel; Liza & Simba's, though salon-based in Hartcliffe, also offers home visits and dog walking.
Cats and other animals
Cindybaby Animal Pamper and Lyde Green Pet Grooming, which specialises in long-haired breeds such as Maine Coons and Persians, both groom cats alongside dogs. Simply Pawsome also offers cat grooming. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.
Reviews
No business in this directory carries an independently verifiable rating from an allowed review source (Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp) with a link this directory could check, so no star ratings are shown here at all; ask to see recent work or a reference before booking.
Where they are
Coverage is heaviest in Fishponds & Kingswood and Filton & Bradley Stoke (seven each), followed by Bath (six), Bedminster & Southville (five), Clifton & Redland and Portishead (three each), Keynsham (two) and Bristol centre, the thinnest at one confirmed independent — the BS1/BS2 postcode ring is largely offices and flats rather than salon premises. If you're in a thinner area, the nearest well-documented option or a mobile groomer covering your postcode is worth trying first.
