How to choose a dog groomer in Bridgwater and Highbridge

A mobile groomer and a customer chat beside a grooming van on a quiet suburban street while a Cockapoo sniffs at the van step

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 20 groomers across four areas: Bridgwater (TA6), Bridgwater Villages & the Polden Hills (TA7), Nether Stowey & the Quantocks (TA5), and Highbridge (TA9). This page was split out of the wider Taunton and Somerset directory so each town gets its own full listing; Taunton, Wellington, Glastonbury & Street, Frome & Shepton Mallet, and Minehead & Burnham-on-Sea remain on that page. Read this before you pick one.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 20 businesses listed, three are high confidence, meaning the details were corroborated directly by the business's own site or page plus at least one other source: VIP Dog Grooming, A Dog's Day Out - Grooming and Woofers Ltd, all in Bridgwater. Nine are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from an online listing, a social media page, or a phone number confirmed against the business's Google profile, rather than the business's own working site. Eight are low confidence: Cut and Strut - Mobile Dog Grooming, Doggy Styles Grooming, Yuppy Pups Dog Grooming, Vicky's Mobile Dog Grooming, Mucky Pups, Handsome Hounds of Durleigh, Kaston Kennels and Izzy's Mobile Dog Grooming; each says so plainly in its listing and asks you to confirm by phone before booking.

One business left out, and one recorded once

Dogs & Co, near Sutton Mallet, was traced on multiple directories but no phone number could be found for it anywhere, even after a further check against Google's own listings; without a phone to confirm, it isn't published here. Yuppy Pups Dog Grooming appears under the same phone number at two addresses on different directories, Wills Business Park and a Market Street address; it's listed once, at the more specific of the two, since neither an own website nor a Google profile could settle which is current, so confirm the address by phone before you go. Pets at Home / The Groom Room branches, seen at Bridgwater Retail Park and in a Highbridge search result, are excluded from this directory as a national chain, as is standard across the network.

Qualifications

City & Guilds training comes up most often: VIP Dog Grooming (Level 2 and 3), Bow-Wows Grooming, Gaynor's Grooming Room (Level 3), and Woofers Ltd, whose two groomers, Sarah and Sam, hold City & Guilds qualifications between diploma and standard level and are both canine first-aid trained. Pawprint Dog Grooming's Nicola King is also described as fully City & Guilds qualified. Ask for the qualification by name if it matters to you.

One-to-one and home-based setups

Several businesses describe grooming one dog at a time rather than running a busy multi-dog salon floor: VIP Dog Grooming (relaxed one-to-one grooming inside the Eastover Indoor Shopping Centre), The Wagging Tail (one-to-one grooming plus supervised playtime) and Puriton Paws (one-to-one grooming with individual attention). Bow-Wows Grooming and Pawprint Dog Grooming are both home-based salons, Gaynor's Grooming Room works by appointment only and takes small and medium-sized dogs with no crates or drying cages, and Wembdon Dog Grooming gives every dog a health check before grooming starts and does not use drying cabinets.

Mobile groomers

Three of the 20 businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Cut and Strut - Mobile Dog Grooming, covering Bridgwater; Vicky's Mobile Dog Grooming, based in Chedzoy; and Izzy's Mobile Dog Grooming, covering the Highbridge and Burnham area. Dirty Paws Dog Grooming & Microchipping, a fixed salon on Rhode Lane, also offers a collection and drop-off service across Bridgwater and the wider Somerset area, so ask a salon-based groomer whether they do the same if you need it.

Cats and other animals

K9 Groomers, in Highbridge, is the one business in this directory confirmed to groom cats alongside dogs. Kaston Kennels, near Mark, is primarily a boarding kennels that also advertises dog clipping and grooming, so ask what that covers if boarding isn't what you're after. Everyone else here is confirmed for dog grooming only.

Reviews

7 of the 20 groomers listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. Two phone numbers here, for The Wagging Tail and The Grooming Cottage, were confirmed against the business's Google profile, which checks contact details rather than giving a review score. Ask to see recent work, a reference, or photos of previous grooms instead of relying on a star rating you can't check yourself.

Where they are, and where coverage is thin

Coverage is heaviest in Bridgwater itself (ten), followed by Bridgwater Villages & the Polden Hills (four). Nether Stowey & the Quantocks and Highbridge are both genuinely thin markets, with only three confirmed businesses each: a repeated check of Cannington, the largest village in Nether Stowey & the Quantocks, and of Highbridge itself, turned up nothing beyond the same wide-radius pool of Taunton, Weston-super-Mare and Burnham-on-Sea businesses that sit outside this page's postcodes. If you're based in either area, checking a mobile groomer's coverage or a neighbouring town on this site is likely to widen your options.
