How to choose a dog groomer in Belfast
Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. Belfast's thirty-two listed groomers range from long-established salons with their own premises to home-based one-person operations found through a single directory listing. Read this before you pick one.
Belfast centre has no confirmed groomer, and south Belfast has just one
No dog groomer with a confirmed BT1 or BT2 address was found anywhere in this research, despite searches across several phrasings and general Belfast-wide directory pages: the city centre's office, retail and hospitality core simply isn't where Belfast's groomers are based. South Belfast and the Lisburn Road (BT7, BT9) fare only slightly better, with a single entry, Bow-Wow! Barber, and even that business's confirmed address sits just south in BT8, at Cleveley Park, rather than inside BT7 or BT9 itself. If you're near either of these areas, the nearest well-documented options are in east Belfast, the best-covered area in this directory with eight groomers, or Newtownabbey, with six; both are a short drive from the city centre and the Lisburn Road.
Check how well the business is documented
Of the thirty-two businesses in this directory, six were confirmed from a first-hand working website plus at least one other source (marked high confidence): K9 Grooming Studio, The Woofy Wash Company, Ruff Cuts Dog Grooming, The Barker Shop Belfast, Barkin Beauties in Newtownabbey, and Lisburn Dog Groomers. Twenty-one are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing, a Facebook page or a council and business-directory record rather than the business's own working site; for several of these, a phone number only came to light through Google's own business listing rather than the business's own page. Five are low confidence, with a single directory or search-result mention as the only source: Bow-Wow! Barber, Kut Above K9 Grooming, The Furdresser, Belfast Dog Groomers (Ballysillan Road) and Barkin Beauties Dog Grooming Boutique. Each of these five carries a note on its listing here saying so plainly, and asking you to confirm details by phone before booking.
Two duplicate names, and one flagged company record
Two unrelated pairs of businesses share very similar names in this directory, and neither pairing could be resolved from public sources. Belfast Dog Groomers North, on Oldpark Road, and Belfast Dog Groomers, on Ballysillan Road, trade under the same name and the same phone number and Facebook page turned up for both, but sources gave two different addresses about a mile apart; whether this is one operator with two premises or a directory duplication couldn't be confirmed, so both are listed separately here, each flagged, rather than merged into one guess. Separately, Barkin Beauties Dog Grooming Boutique on Ballysillan Road and Barkin Beauties -Professional Dog Grooming & Training Academy in Newtownabbey share the first two words of their name but are different businesses at different addresses with different phone numbers. The Newtownabbey academy carries its own flag: its registered company shows as dissolved at Companies House since March 2022, yet its website, phone number and social presence all still read as active, and it appears on current local directories. It's listed here as trading, but confirm by phone that it's still operating before you visit or book.
Who was left out, and why
Three named businesses turned up in research with no confirmed phone number anywhere, so they aren't published here at all: Fur Grooming Salon (east Belfast), A Dip & A Clip and Mucky Paws (both Newtownabbey, both listed only on a single directory page). The Groom Room, the Pets at Home in-store grooming chain, was seen at branches in Belfast, Lisburn and Bangor and is deliberately excluded, as are all national chains in this directory. Two mobile operators covering large parts of greater Belfast, Mucky Mutts Mobile and the three local Dial a Dog Wash franchisees, are mobile-only with no fixed base address ever found, so none could be assigned to one of this directory's areas and none are listed. A handful of other names, including Deputy Dog Grooming Salon, Kings Dog Groomers and ApexK9 Wellness, turned up in a search result or another listing but could never be paired with a verifiable address, so they aren't invented here. Comb & Bark, in Banbridge, turned up on the same page as several Lisburn businesses but is a different town roughly fifteen miles away and is excluded as out of area.
Mobile groomers
Two of the thirty-two businesses here work from a van rather than a fixed salon: Kut Above K9 Grooming, based around Sandy Row on the edge of west Belfast with no fixed premises found anywhere, and Dog Gone Gorgeous, which offers a mobile option alongside its Mount Merrion Avenue base in east Belfast. If you need someone to come to you, ask a salon-based groomer whether they also travel, since several without a listed mobile service may still offer one.
Reviews
No business in this directory carries a rating here. Several sources seen during research quote star ratings from directory aggregators and a business's own site (Ruff Cuts Dog Grooming's own site claims 4.9 from 215 reviews, for instance), but none of these could be independently verified on a Google, Trustpilot, Fresha, Booksy or Yelp page with a working link, which is the only kind of rating shown here. Ask to see recent work, or a reference, rather than relying on a figure this directory can't verify.
Where they are
Coverage is heaviest in east Belfast (eight), followed by Newtownabbey (six), north Belfast and Lisburn (five each), Bangor and Holywood (four), west Belfast (three), south Belfast and the Lisburn Road (one), and Belfast centre (none confirmed at all). If you're in a thinner area, the nearest well-documented salon in east Belfast or Newtownabbey, or a mobile groomer covering your postcode, is worth trying first.
