How to choose a dog groomer in Aylesbury and Thame

Dog grooming is unregulated in the UK, so the checking is on you. This directory covers 21 groomers across four areas: Aylesbury (HP19, HP20, HP21), Aylesbury Villages (HP18), Wendover & Princes Risborough (HP22, HP27) and Thame & Haddenham (OX9, HP17). This town page was split out of Hemel Hempstead's former combined listing so each area gets its own page.

Check how well the business is documented

Of the 21 businesses listed, 10 were confirmed from a working website plus at least one other independent source (marked high confidence). Nine are medium confidence, usually meaning the details come from a directory listing or a phone number confirmed independently rather than the business's own working site. Websites worth knowing don't work

Four businesses have a website address on record that couldn't be used: Hazel's Happy Hounds and ZoomGroom Studio each have their own domain, but Hazel's returned an error and ZoomGroom Studio's security certificate didn't match when checked; Elite Pawfection's domain didn't resolve at all; and SJ Poochie Parlor's showed only a placeholder page with no content. Their listings here leave out the broken link rather than send you to a dead page; call instead. A further four businesses, Love of Paws, Daper Dan, Mucky Paws (Cuddington) and H & R, have never had a website found for them at all; each is a home-based groomer known only from directory listings.

Qualifications

City & Guilds training is cited by several businesses here: Lady And The Hounds Dog Grooming's Laura (Level 3, trained at GroomArts Academy, St Albans), Gosford Pets' in-house team, and The Prim Pad Pet Grooming's Hayley (Level 3 iPET diploma, March 2024, plus cat-grooming training that September). MD Dog Grooming's Megan Dimmock holds a Level 3 OCN qualification, and Wendover Paws' groomer holds a Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming and describes themself as K-9 behaviour trained. Soggy Paws Pet Spa says its team is City & Guilds qualified and fully insured.

Home-based and one-to-one setups

Several businesses here work from a home rather than a shopfront: Lady And The Hounds Dog Grooming (Broughton), The Prim Pad Pet Grooming (Haddenham garden salon), Love of Paws and Mucky Paws (Cuddington) (both Cuddington), Daper Dan (Woodham) and H & R (Stoke Mandeville). Grooming by Elsa works independently from inside another salon, Park ur Paws Groomers, rather than running her own premises. Soapy Dogs is the only mobile groomer in this town, working from a van across South Bucks and South Oxfordshire rather than a fixed base.

Cats and other animals

The Prim Pad Pet Grooming, Soggy Paws Pet Spa and ZoomGroom Studio all groom cats alongside dogs; Soggy Paws Pet Spa also grooms small pets. Everyone else in this directory is confirmed for dog grooming only.

Reviews

11 of the 21 groomers listed here show a Google rating, taken from the business's own Google profile and linked from the listing; the others have no rating from a source this directory can link to. Ask to see recent work, a reference, or photos of previous grooms instead of relying on a star rating you can't check yourself.

Where they are, and where they're thin

Coverage is heaviest in Aylesbury itself (8), followed by Wendover & Princes Risborough (6), Thame & Haddenham (4) and Aylesbury Villages (3). Thame & Haddenham is the thinnest area on this page: it has only four confirmed businesses, and one of those, SJ Poochie Parlor, carries a postcode/town mismatch and a placeholder website, making it the shakiest record here. Princes Risborough town centre itself has no confirmed listing; the businesses covering that side of the area are actually based in Longwick and Stoke Mandeville, a few miles out. Aylesbury Villages is represented only by home groomers in Cuddington and Woodham; other HP18 villages, including Waddesdon, Winchendon, Long Crendon, Dinton and Quainton, have no confirmed groomer. If you're in one of the thinner spots, expect to travel or to rely on a home-based groomer a village or two over.
